I am geting hacked off with the window clips. Firstly the velcro keeps falling off and now the clips seem to have bent upward slightly under pressure from the window and need even more velcro to stop the window from squeeking.

Has anyone come up with a replacement clip or alternative way of fixing the window that doesn't mean I spend time fettling the thing every month.

Have to say I thought the Dzus method of fixing is pretty crap. I replaced the velcro with new stuff I bought from a curtain shop, I didn't bother glueing it on as it was sticky enough and if that goes I will just replace it again as its cheap as chips.

The window squeeking can be stopped for a while (week or so) buy applying very lightly to the rubber, a silicon spray. As I was fairly meticulous about caring for my car I did this every time it was washed.

Whilst I have not tried to search for replacement Dzus fasteners I know Demon Tweeks used to sell them.

Good Luck

Ditto - I have used silicon spray for the past 12 mths, and for a week or so at a time, it does tend to work to prevent squeaks. However, I am keen to learn of another solution - how does the Velcro option work?

Velcro was on the rear window on mine as standard fitting. The lower part of the rear screen where it slips behind the boot lid has a piece of velcro attached to it almost the full width of the screen. (Its the none hook side only of the velcro that is used). The velcro serves simply as an insulator to stop the screen rubbing against the boot lid. The clips held in place by the Dzus fasteners also seat on top of the velcro strip. The top tanges of the screen that slip under the roll over targa bar have short pieces of velcro as well. It does help reduce the screen squeaking in the hot weather. I did try talc powder on the rubber at first and that worked real well (works well on squeaky engine belts) but its a pain to apply every weekend you wash the car so I opted to use the silicon spray instead.

Mine also had a couple of layers of velcro on the clip themselves, however this is now 3 layers to keep the screen tight against the seal.

I have used the silicon spray on a regular basis but I'm getting bored now after 3 years of trying and am looking for a more permanent solution of keeping the window sealed and squeak free.

I think I will start with a new set of clips and attach a piece of carved rubber to push the window up and in. I'm sure it will take some fettling but I hope it will be a once only job.

I have never had a problem with the tongue sqeaking and have thus not used velcro on the window itself. Also my car is fitted with a seal on the bottom of the boot lid which acts as a seal and stops the window rubbing until the clips get loose again.

I find 2 or 3 layers of velcro (loopy side) attached to the clips normally pushes the window down onto the seal enough to stop the squeaking and any leaks.
