Prior to the rebuild (top end coolent leak rebuild) I've always used Shell fully syn. oil which has done me very well ie I haven't needed to top up half as much as other Tuscans I did Le Mans and Reims 1000's miles without needing topup so much so I thought I must be reading the gauge wrong, but this was checked and it would seem that my Tuscan was never much of an oil drinker - one theory is the Shell oil is thicker.

So now I have the new engine I want to make sure I'm doing things right - do I go with the Shell which has worked OK before or choose a better quality one?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Jo - sorry to hear about the rebuild. Prior to mine going, the engine had not required any additional oil and was running on fully synthetic after 10,750 miles. Afterwards, have been using semi-synthetic as instructed through first 6k miles, as I think this runs more thickly than fully syn, and this is actually preferred in the bedding-down stage of a new engine.

6k service on new engine due soon so will be seeking updated guidance at that stage. I have also noticed that the rebuilt engine IS using a little oil, but certainly within reasonable boundaries (<1/2 litre over 3k miles).

Thanks for the response MB, have also just spotted the Opie Oilmen offer of oil suggestion based on car spec. so will give them a try.

Thanks
