Stupid Question (SORRY!) but what do you get with an S model
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Beent hinkof swapping the Chim for a Tuscan for a while now...seen one I like the looks nad it is an S model.....just wondered what options the S came with in 2002
Can't really seem to easily find a list of things you get with an S that you don't get with a non S.
Cheers
Pete

With the S you get over the standard model:
The 4.0ltr 'S' spec engine with a higher output (factory claimed 390-405 bhp depending on year).
Suspension geometry and tuning based around the 18" spider wheels (standard Tuscan suspension was tuned around the 16" rims) so less wayward handling. I think lower ride height too??
Slightly bigger bore exhaust system (not sure if its louder)
Aero aids (front splitter and rear Gurney flap/spoiler) for better high speed (100mph+)stability.
Xenon high beam head lights.
Different rear light cluster arrangement.
Air Con
Full leather interior
DAB radio (not sure which model year this became standard)
Fully carpeted boot (Woooo!)
There may be a few others but basically it included some performance upgrades and every optional extra available at the time. They were previously known as "Red Rose" editions.

The S included Hydratrak LSD as well and larger diameter front brake discs but the "Full leather interior" was optional. I think the factory claimed HP figures are a little exaggerated even at 390. Not so sure about the lower ride height or the larger bore exhaust.
If its a 2002 car ideally it will hopefully have Nitrons or Ohlins fitted replacing the crappy standard Bilstiens which leak prematurely...if not, budget in around 1500 quid for a set of Nitrons.... set up well they make SUCH a difference.
Good luck

This is what the Sports Pack includes (from TVR source plus my TVR dealer):
Air Conditioning, upgraded suspension, upgraded brakes, gas head lights, 18’’ wheel, larger exhaust, +15BHP
Standard engine is 4 litre 365 bhp, S version is 380 bhp.
For £8,500 +VAT I don't really understand why people would buy it (although many do).

Just recently sold my "S" - 'cause we needed the dosh for summit else
That fell through and after being mega depressed for a few weeks the girly decided I needed cheering up - so we went to a TVR dealer and ended up buying another - albeit a "std" 4.0 l tuscan. Wey hey for girlies
.
So to get to your question, my "new" tuscan comes with 18" spiders, full leather, carpeted boot ( yes an optional extra !!), xenons and air con. I dont have haydratrak - but then my "S" didn't either.
I find the normal rather than close ratio box you get in the "S" easier. I like the splitter & rear spoiler on the "S" that you don't get on the Std. Performance wise... OMG I can't really tell the difference - they are both blistering fast
, blistering loud, (got carbon cans
) and blisterngly drop dead gorgeous. I make no apologies for giving it what for in 2nd and then lifting off outside any pub on a sunny day - pure joy.
Both stop on a sixpence - but i'm rabling now. buy one - kudos having an "S" in nicer if that's what you want - but as others have said on these forums buying one comes down to history, history, history.
You wont regret it
I just love my TVR
