3.6. or 4.0 ? drive in a city

I am interested by a 3.6. or 4.0 but my dealer disadvises this choice since I am driving every day in a city, with jams.
It seems that this not easy to drive a Tuscan in urban conditions, even a 3.6. Lt due to the gear ratio (1st and 2nd).
Do you confirm and what does it mean exactly ?
Have you already experienced this environment ?

I drive my 4.0 with standard gearbox everyday in traffic without any problems. The clutch is really light and not an issue. I can only guess he is referring to the close ratio box fitted to the S variant as it has a higher 1st and 2nd gear, but I can't comment on using one in traffic.
my s is a pig in traffic,its either wait a second or three when the car in front pulls off or shunt him up the ass as he pulls off, and in flowing traffic say 10-25mph steady it wont go below 30 in third even with no gas.,if you go into second it just takes off at the slightest throttle movement and if you are travelling in slow but steady moving traffic you have to keep dabbing the brakes to keep a safe distance.
did drive cerb sp6 last week,seemed much more civilised in low gears but that also could be due to diff ratio,even that didn`t like going slow though.

Ditto that for my 3.6 - not a problem in London jams, although not particular pleasant because of the lack of decent progress!
I'm with MB on this one...Mines a 4.0 BTW..traffic is a PITA at the best of times.

when the roads are clear I had a 3.6 Tuscan with a standard gearbox. No problems at all in traffic.
My Sagaris had a close ratio ‘box and a diff ratio which gives a very long 1st (60mph in 1st, 100mph in 2nd) and it is fine in traffic. You just need to give it a few extra RPM to pull away cleanly from standstill.
Both cars used everyday for commuting in traffic.
Maybe your dealer thinks that the 3.6 lacks enough torque to pull away cleanly with a close ratio gearbox. Personally I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

I've got a 3.6 with standard gearbox and it's a pussycat in traffic - it will amble along at idle in first once it's well warmed up, and never goes over 93C water temperature even when it's 35C ambient. The S6's flexibility to either rev or lug also means you don't spend too much time swapping from 1st to 2nd and back.

Although most of my commuting is by motorbike, the Tuscan (4.0) has never been a problem in jams. Sure, the water temp can get pretty high, but it drives easily and, for instance, is as happy ambling between 20-30 in 3rd, if asked to do so, as it is in 2nd. Pretty docile for a beast, really. Maybe it depends on how well sorted each particular car is.
