If it's stuck the cable could be fraying at the pedal end. You'll know for sure when it snaps - so it's worth getting it checked out before.

Cheers,

Andy.

Yes you will. Happened to me a couple of weeks ago. RAC fixed it at the road side.

just needs a bit of adjustment, nipple is fine, and have a spare in the boot for when it does go

just need to work out how to get a 13mm spanner in a space barely big enough for a door mouse to hibernate in....

cheers custard

How you doing Justin?
Picked her up last weekend, but didn't tempt fate by going on the Northants run!

Basically a top and bottom end rebuild, except finger follower and cams which were ok! will post exact details in my profile, when i get time.

Throttle adjustment tips:

Erratic idle - one of the tiny springs on the 'throttle bridge' the bit that links all the butterfly valves had drifted from its seat. easy fix and you can see them if you remove the top of the air box. just don’t let it 'spring' away into the engine bay you'll never find it again!

Excess cable at pedal in foot well - remove the top and bottom of the air box to get to the bottom bolt where the throttle cable outer meets the bracket attached to the engine, adjust accordingly. then do fine adjustment where the inner meets the 'bridge' mechanism by rotating the yoke.

result - sweet idling engine driving

hope this helps someone

cheers

er, what do you do if the throttle sticks open at speed...??!!?!??!?!!?!
Switch off ignition and brake saves the engine but you lose control, no..?
Brake to a halt with the egine turning will knacker the motor,no..?
So..?

I think it was running away as the small spring (see above)wasn't forcing three of the throttle butterflies to return when you come off the gas, the air flow passed the butterflies must have been enough to keep them open.

when it stuck i took it out of gear, and i guess the engine revved until it hit the limiter or the characteristics of air flow (must read that fluid dynamics book teacher )past the butterflies changed allowing them to close, not sure which it happened very quickly.

wouldn't fancy braking from high speed with the ignition off and no brake servo, would rather lunch the engine!

i guess the moral is to keep an eye on those ickle springs!
