Has anyone had anyone thought or had a glass rear window made and fitted in a Tuscan. I have a Tuscan one and am tired of the labourious task of taking the roof off. When taking the roof off, you have to take the rear window out in fear of the thing popping out on the highway at 200km/h plus, or just watch as the wannabees go flying by. I'm looking at having a custom glass window made and fitted, ala the older Porsche targas. Surely this would not pop out at reasonale speeds (up to 200km/h). This would also sort out my squeaking problem, that I just cannot get rid of, no matter what I do. I have read all the threads on eliminating the squeaks, and applied all the fixes. None have worked. Would appreciate help or advice. Cheers ...

Why would a glass window not pop out as well at speed? Surely it's the method of fixing in the window that has to be addressed whether it's glass or perspex?

Part of it is the flexabilty of the windo, and the other part the fixing / fitting of the window. The window is not rigid, nor does it fit really tightly, so at high speeds (and this is a warning for TVR) the window may pop out. I know of a few incidents where this has actually happened. The only other Tuscan in South Africa has had this problem already.

Have you replaced the window with the later version which is larger? I too get worried that the window will fly out but having driven recently at around 150mph (on a track of course ) with the roof of & window in I feel much more confident. The wind noise however was not so comforting.

How do i know if mine is the old or new style? I bought my car just over a year ago as a demo model from the TVR agents in South Africa. Where can I get a new screen from? I spoke the the local TVR guys and they are wanting about R5000 (£500). Seems rather steep to me. I have been doing some phoning around, and I can possibly get a rear glass made up and permenantly fitted for around the same price. Methinks these guys are ripping the ring out of us TVR drivers down here.

have you tried the velcro squeak fix? Just run the fluffy side of a strip of sticky velcro tape along the top outside edge of the plastic screen. That's the only fix that has worked for me.

As for a glass screen, why? Is it because you cannot be bothered to take out the perspex screen? If that's the case just drive it with it in and hope it does not blow out. check it's fitted correctly and the two catches are done up tight.

A replacement bigger fit screen is available for about £90 I think over here.

cheers

also I guess the hot sun in SA makes the screen more flexible and hence might blow out easier.

Speak to Mark at Ciceley Continental. He is currently awaiting delivery of some blue tinted ones. Approx £120. Think they will suit your needs.

They are in Kyalami, just a stones throw away from the race track (coincidence, I think not).

Thanks Richard.

I found their web site, and have dropped Mark an email. Just awaiting his response. Much appreciated.

That's why I am careful not to drive too fast with the rear screen in. I guess I am just a lazy sod, and could not be bothered with taking the rear screen out everytime I take the top off. It's quite a mission to get the rear screen aligned properly again when putting it back. I've done the velcro thing, done the silicone spray thing, done the vaseline thing, but if the screen isn't aligned perfectly, it squeaks like a mouse being raped by a lion. That's mostly why I don't really remove the back screen, and hence seldom take the top off.

get some de-cat pipes and carbon can company rear exhausts, then apply some throttle. Then you won't be able to hear any squeaking! Or anything else for that matter!

seriously though,
- the small screens leave a gap with the rubber surround one side or the other...
- whereas the big ones cover all the rubber and almost touch the body/paint each side.
That should be enough info for you to decide if you have a big one or a small one.
If you have a small one you should definitely have it seen to. I got a big one and it's a much better fit with no leakages

Dont use vaseline as it's petroleum based, and as it destroys condoms I would imagine it's not doing the rubber seals much good either. Try Holts rubber and plastic lubricant or Eiznett Rubber seal treatment. Cant comment on KY jelly but as that is water based can't think that will be much good for the purpose you are thinking of.....

Personally I prefer the Carbon Cans approach and deafen yourself that way!

I just got mine from TVR Power...

- Big Griff, do u know if Ciceley do other colours/tints/smokes? I wanted to have my clear screen tinted for the summer heat but they won't put film on plastic screens...
