use a ladies nail emery board to smooth it back then mask the tyre and rim just leaving the edge exposed and spray it in with a can of similar silver paint.

after having a better look..there are a couple of spots which may need filling before painting. does anybody know a good product for this ??

also...after i paint the allow, will i need to protect the paint with a layer of something else to stop the brake dust eating the new paint ??

cheers all !

Yep - I use metal filler in a small tube, Halfords sell it. Just mix a bit up with the hardening catalyst and fill the holes, then it can be shaped with a razor blade after about 15 mins when it's just going off. I found it's best to clean up the scrape as best as possible before filling any remaining holes. Once set it can be filled with the emery board etc. Whether or not to laquer it I guess depends if your wheel is originally, personally I've never bothered. (I think it's technically called Isopon Chemical Metal) http://marinestore.co.uk/page/mrst/CT
