Tuscan bonnet with hinges???

Has anyone heard of or know anyone who's looked at putting hinges on the Tuscan bonnet so it opens in a more conventional way?? I didn't really think it was possible given its size and the way it's set up without some major modifications?? My local indie wants to give it a go so he can show off his handiwork! But I'm just not sure its worth the hassle.

I have gone for quick release DZUS fasteners for the front 4 leaving the rear pins as standard on mine. I looked at all sorts of possiblities to hinge the bonnet, but it is not really practical in my opinion. However would be interested to see what it looks like and how well it works if you go for it.

I would be interested in that, but it would have to be a proper opening flip bonnet aka Chimaera style, maybe on gas struts, I don't see much point in using 4 quick release clips on the standard 4 front bolts as it's not that difficult to un-do them.
I guess he would look at moulding the lower bonnet into the upper bonnet and it hinging where the lower bonnet hinges?

I am doing one at the moment . I have removed the section round the fans and hinged the rest near the top front bar on the chassis with the small front bonnet opening simultaneously on a cantilever system . I am changing the catches near the screen which is actually quite a big part of the job , David

interesting, will this affect cooling at all?? Cannot wait to see photos!

Out of interest why does everyone want to take the bonnets off? Just to look at the engine?
It must be possible to do yourself, the spanners at your dealership must do it somehow. With the Sagaris you're only supposed to take off the 'inspection' bonnet too but it's actually really easy to take the rest of it off too.

I think we can all agree that it's easy to take off the bonnet. However, when you need to do something quickly in an evening and there is nobody around to help you, it's impossible to lift off the bonnet alone without risk of damaging something.
And, yes, it is nice just to look at the engine sometimes and maybe just give it a clean down!!

Once mine is done they will know costs etc and I can publish piccies.
As I understand it they are working on joining the two sections of the bonnet together, removing some material around the filler necks so they clear the bonnet when it is raised, providing new (reinforced) front hinges and possibly a gas strut arrangement for the bonnet to maintain it in the elevated position. The only issue currently is the retaining mechanism, which is provisionally set to utilise the existing top clip mechanism.
