oil advice.

I've got a tusc 2s, 3000 miles. needed a little top up so called the dealer, they said put a normal 15w 40 oil in. put it in and all good but a mate said that oil is usually used for older higher milage engines. i know i need to change it on the 6k service for a semi synthetic. just checking that it was right to put the 15w 40 in. i used castrol gtx. it does say high mileage on the tub. thanks for any hep.

If your car is that new then it is still in its run in/loosen up period. Semi synthetic is used upto the first 6000 miles service they then use full synthetic. Its not good to mix ordinary mineral oils with semi or full synthetic, tho you can get away with mixing it with semi. Personally I would top up with the correct grade semi.

Previously mineral oil only used to be used for the first 1K miles after which a semi synthetic oil would be used until 6K miles.Now that seem to have changed and 15W40 mineral oil such as Mobil Super M should be used until 6K miles, as said helps with the running in process.

My Tuscan 2, which was new in March, did 1000 miles on mineral and then 5000 on semi and is on full synth now. It's done 16,000 with no engine problems despite 9 track days.
