Hi to all you Tuscan guys.

I am currentley driving a 450 Chimaera, but have decided it's time to move on.

1 or so simple questions (and I'm sure it's already been covered).

What are the basic things I need to be aware of. Budget £20,000 - £25,000

1. Red rose or not?
2. 2000 or 2001 spec?
3. Will I be alright if the car hasn't had an engine rebuild?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

For the budget you've got you should be able to get a newer car (assuming that you're happy to buy privately) especially if you're buying at this time of year.

When I looked, one of my criteria was that the car had to have had an engine rebuild from 2004 onwards, but it depends on your attitude to risk. I found that these cars were priced around £1k more than non-rebuild cars, so it made a lot of sense bearing in mind that a rebuild is £5k+

Personaly I would go for the Red Rose over the standard as it has a better spec, however for your budget you should be able to get an 'S'

There's a dealer 2004 Tuscan S for around 25K in PH Classifieds - last of the Mk1s - could turn out to be the one to have - I know I prefer the original over the Mk2.

I'll give you the same advice that I was given when I bought my mark 1 Tuscan, the newer the car you can buy the better!! Also if you can buy from a dealer there is a certain peace of mind, but you will pay approx. £3k more for the pleasure but if your engine needs a rebuild in that time it should be covered. Just make sure you use it a lot in the 12months to iron out the niggles!

I was lucky I bought a 2000 X reg mark 1 from Hexham, that some theiving scum had nicked. On reving the preverbials out of it from cold the engine sounded like a bag of spanners so the insurance company replaced it!! Then the lastowner decided to get rid!!

I was in a rare position of running in a 2000 tuscan with as brand new engine with 30,000 miles on the clock.

check out the ph classifieds

I have just agreed a deal on a Griff, but was also considering Tuscan's in your range.

Had a look at the swordfish 2002 S for 19k on sunday...and it looked good

I was also offered the spectraflair 04 S sitting in N Ireland for 23.8k delivered to kent

...there are some bargains to be had.

or you could buy my redrose from the classifieds with a rebuild this month! pocket the difference and have a nice christmas holiday!!!

or, being slightly controversial, assuming you like the Mk 1 shape and dash, buy an older one in the colour spec you like, benefit from the ridiculously cheap prices around (bearing in mind I am a 2 year owner of a 2000 Tuscan) and send it to Autocraft for complete gearbox,clutch and engine rebuild (within the budget you disclose) and have the most reliable car of them all

If getting into TVR ownership now, would be a serious consideration.
