Looking at used MKI's and would like an opinion if you consider AC as desirable, essential or what else? I want a car with a good heater for the winter months and assume the AC is only really useful in the summer when the top is on

IMHO - get one with aircon. It is not the strongest blast of air you will ever find BUT the plus points are:-

1. You will be glad of the spec at resale time.
2. In damp winter driving, the a/c is a godsend at keeping the interior defugged.
3. Driving barefoot on hot summer days with the a/c on full blast and the targa in the boot.

I've not found the lack of it a problem, even in the south of France in the summer!

I have been through 2 summers without, and to be honest, have not missed it on anything other than one or two occasions. Am cognizant it may affect my resale value, but at £2k+ for a retrofit which may now not be available, it was a costly optional extra.

I've had two tuscans from new and never specced aircon. If it's hot I take the roof off.

I think it depends on how you use the car as well. Get stuck in traffic on a very hot day and it's worth the money imo.

I specced my T2 without AC and don't regret it at all. I always drive with either the roof off or the windows down. In my opinion its not worth the money. Now, if I had a Sag or a T350 then I would have specced AC.

On my fist Tuscan I did not spec it as a/The roof/rear window can be removed b/Always was under the impression it did not work very well in a TVR & c/Expensive option & not really necessary in a weekend car.

However it was standard on my current Tuscan 2 with S pack and must say it is really very good & I would miss it now if it was not fitted.

Had one without and now have one with. Definately a worthwhile extra. You don't always want to drive with the roof off when its hot.

Am in the "don't need it" camp too, well except for a couple of baking hot days stuck in traffic. Otherwise windows down and rear screen out works a treat.

Not sure as to non-factory aftermarket work, but pre-annoucement of closure, I was quoted north of £2k for retro-fitting.
