Tuscan S MKII purchase advice
Discussion
I'm going to buy a 2005 Tuscan S MKII. This car has done 5000 miles and looks like new. Any advice what to check on the car? Is there a possibility to check the engine's health? I really would appreciate your help as I live in Switzerland and there are not many people they know about Speed6 TVR's.

Peter,
The engine is a post 2004 model so should be ok providding its been properly treated, however its always worth ascerting this more formally if possible. Big Al, if you email him, should be able to help you out with a "buyers what to look for guide". This guide was aimed at the mk1 but there is little difference in all honesty. The mk2 owners do report much better build quality than that of the Mk1's and the engines seem far more reliable these days.
Quickly....Basics to look for are dampers should not be leaking.
Engine should not burn oil on cold start up, it may sound a bit rattly/rough on cold start up but that's the standard S6's trait generally.
For only 5K its going to have a limited service history so ask the owner the usual questions like how does he/she warm the car up before razzing it and at what temps does he/she limit the rpm during warm up. What temp does he/she consider it fully warmed up? Does he/she go by oil temp or water temp? This is the period when most engine wear/damage is caused. A knowledgeable sympathetic owner will give you the right answers, if he/she doesn't know, be more cautious. Check the fluid levels and of course ensure all paperwork is in line with the car. Make sure there is no outstanding finance owed on the car. Not sure how it works over there but many folk this side of the ogen have had their newly purchased P&J whipped away from them by plod, due to outstanding defaulted finance deals.
Get one and enjoy they are awesome, but if its your first TIV be very carefully with the loud pedal, these cars do not suffer fools gladly.
Take care

Check electric windows operation and lock release mechanism on doors. Check the engine at idle when you turn AirCon on...if it starts clicking on/off the engine revs at idle aren't high enough (Aircon will drop the revs). Check window washers...my passenger side tubing keeps melting and dropping off. Run it until hot and check both fans come on at 92/94 DEGREES. I assume it's a targa so check roof release mechanism, I've heard of the pins being stuck....
Thanks for all the hints and tips. I checked the car yesterday and it looks like I'm going to buy it. They have to fix a few minor problems like a stuck pin on the targa roof etc. And they will do a respray of the front (stone chips).
There is oil on the diff where the cardan shaft is. I think they have to change the oil seal on the diff. Do you know this problem?
Engine looks and drives good. Hope to get the car in January...
