I was seriously considering buying a TVR Tuscan a few months back, but after reading some comments on this forum i was put off by the fact that the speed six engines were needing to be rebuilt after they had only done 20,000miles etc. But i still find myself wanting one. So i was wondering if there is any warranties out there that cover the engine, clutch etc, that cover the full cost of if any of this major work was needed to be carried out, and at wot cost they are.

I paid £1300 for a two year warranty (non factory) to cover the Tuscan which is underwritten Motorplan/ Aon .

The only downside is the individual limit per claim of £4k which might need supplementing for a full re-build

Warranty companies RARELY if ever pay out on speed six engine problems. They call it wear and tear, even after only 20k miles and this excludes it from the policy.

I wouldn't bother with anything other than a manufacturers warranty.

What i do is i have a £5k fighting fund sitting in a savings account earning interest. Its there in case the engine goes bang and i dont have to pay out for a warranty.

Tuscans are great, i love them, but make sure you can afford the odd big bill. They do happen.

Tuska, your right about the "slush" fund appraoch as being an alternative.

With the warranty though.........

When I purchased the speed six checked with insureres on speed six limitations of claim and they were happy to provide a written guaruntee to pay out on average mileage and FSH form the purchase date for two years.

So I should be OK (fingers crossed)

Hey, i wouldn't wish problems on anyone, its just i have a healthy mis-trust of anything to do with insurance.
I really hope your engine doesn't break and if it does, i hope your policy will cover it.

Thanks, I too have a healthy distrust and badgered them before I purchased the car in the hope that it will be OK (£1300) is a lot for a warranty if they hadn't I'd have banged £1500 a year into the engine rebuild fund.

Im hoping that the engine will be good no problems yet, I warm the oil before driving restrict the car to good speed runs and generally look after her better than my wife.

And just think, you can trade in, upgrade, respray, fettle and tinker with her. Ride her hard and make her steam.

Cant do that to the wife........

Quite,

Don't know if your insulting my manhood or praising the car.

The Tuscan never whinges although does growl a bit.

Have to say the maintanance on the wife is a bit less though :laugh
