As you folks can see I have one area of my pride and joy that has some corrosion (in the yellow box). The area around it (mainly the chassis) also has some surface rust and I can't help but think they are related. The part has two hoses that connect to it. Can anyone help identify what this part is and whether the corrosion is excessive for a 3 year old car.
As always - thanks.

That's the oil/water heat exchanger. It does look quite rusty for a 3 yr old however its nothing to worry about.
Has the car been driven or kept in damp and/or salty environments? If you're bothered by it, a once over with a wire brush, some red oxide and a lick of paint on the affected parts should do the trick. The oil hose connectors (the two small ones) should only need wire brushing followed by a thin smear of grease.

Thanks Dave, I had a plan to wire brush, prime and paint but wasn't sure whether to replace the part or not.
I have had the car for a year and a half. It's always been garaged. The dealer had it on on display outside of the showroom for about 6 months and not sure what the original owner did with it.
Whitey, Needless to say I was hoping for something similar when I took the bonnet off. I have my work cut out to get it up to your standard.
I just wish that bonnet removal wasn't such a big deal.
