Yesterday, Tesco's car park. I pull into a space, switch off the ignition etc.. then notice some old boy in an 8 year old Peugeot 405 reversing towards me into the space in front with the drivers door open, hanging out to look behind him. Didn't stop the censored reversing straight into the front of the Tiv, cracking the service bonnet with his tow bar! Result - estimate for £300 plus VAT. rage

I took his details but is there any point in persuing him? I was fuming and said "this is going to cost you my dear chap" or words to that effect after I had asked him if he had recently had an eye test. His reply was "we'll let the insurers decide that shall we". I just know what will happen - I'll claim, he'll deny it and I'll end up with higher premiums or having to foot the bill myself. mad

Phone him and tell him you have the CCTV footage from Tescos.

Maybe that'll change his tune! Silly old censored

If it doesn't, tell him you know where he lives, and it's a banana in the tailpipe for him!

Sorry to hear that Paul, I actually left the Tusc at home Sunday and took my daughters Peugeot to the local B&Q cos I know its a small car park filled with idiots and van drivers. Seen no end of scrapes and digs where the driver doesnt even look and carries on totally unconcerned.
How much is your excess? Seems like regretfully you may just have to swallow the £300.
Having met you I bet the chap was introduced to some fine Anglo Saxon verbal the like of which he probably hadnt heard before.

Hi Di

Good point. I'm pretty sure my excess is £500 so not worth a claim anyway.

You are of course right. The chap was left in no doubt as to what I thought of his driving.

Nothing to say really. Shit happens

I always get berated by Mrs Beano for parking "miles away" from the entrances to these sort of places. But I've seen drivers (if you can call them "drivers" ) find all sorts of ingenius ways to scratch and scrape others.....

...and this morning, in the rain, there were a fair few trying to launch themselevs into my rear or side while we're all going nowhere in a traffic jam. Several times I was waiting for a "crunch". Why do people do that? rolleyes

Mine got damaged by a doddery old censored in a polo. He admitted responsibility then denied it a week later after insisting i didn't involve insurers. Total cost of repair will be about £400 and excess is £500 so its not worth it. Instead i'm going to post his home phone number in every service station in the land and book ia double glazing appointment every day for the next 5 years! Ah now that's satisfaction.
As far as the damages go I'm going to leave it until I sell the beast as it'll only get hit again...

The damage is below my excess. So I cannot claim. His insurers will not deal with me unless he advises them of the incident. Tesco will not release the tapes of the incident unless requested to do so by the Police. The Police will probably not be interested because the incident took place on private land and nobody was injured. banghead

I used to be a lawyer (luckily escaped now).

When I was starting out I did a year of RTA cases in the small claims court. Whenever a case came to us where the defendant had reversed in a car park we knew we would win. The duty of care is on the person reversing and the Highway Code states that you should “get someone to guide you if you cannot see clearly”.

You most likely have legal expense cover in your insurance. Tell your insurer you were reversed into. They will tell the other company who will most likely settle as it will not be worth the expense of fighting. The other side pays the whole claim. You have no excess to pay and keep your NCB.

Sorry that your P&J was damaged - but don’t let the Bstrd get away with it.

Thanks Luddite! I'll call my insurers and see what they think.

Always carry a "throw away" camera in my car for events such as this. Confucious he say "A picture is worth a thousand words". (or something like that)
Good luck.

The ironic thing is he had a disposable camera and started photographing the front of my car! Presumably in case I claim a total respray.rolleyes

Anyway, I've spoken to privelige and they seem to think its no problem and they are going to contact his insurers. So unless he tells outright lies (which is always possible), in view of what luddite said I should be ok.

Good news! thumbup

My insurers spoke to his insurers yesterday and were told that the other driver had not accepted responsibility. But they called me direct this morning saying he had accepted full responsibility and the Pru were paying for everything, free loaner etc...

Probably one for his growing albumn / ticklist. "Ooooh Doris, look I got a Tuscan today"!

Cheers,

Tom.

Got the car back from HHC yesterday, good as new.

Praise where it's due. The Prudential, who insured my assailant, paid for everything and provided me with a 2 month old E Class Mercedes for the week while my car was in. Caunt fault them.

Good to hear a happy ending and full marks to the Pru. We are all quick to publicly rubbish insurers (not difficult I know) when they act like ....kers. Good to see an insurer acting promptly and efficiently.
