Hi,

Almost due the 12k service. I have been quoted just shy of £1k from my indy in Scotland.
This looks pretty steep as I'm sure the 6k only cost £400 (although it was a different garage!).

What exactly should the 12k service cover (how is it different from a 6k).

Thanks as always!

A £1000 seems a lot from a indi,i dont no how far up in scotland you are, but there have been some very nice posts on here about AUTODROME in blackpool, and very good prices to.

Maybe so, but how can they justify charging 400 quid over the going rate!

For example, have a look at the prices offered by Automedon and Austec.

I don't think you could ever argue that either of these two indies were anything short of top notch!

I was told tappet setting is std. for a 12,000 service...I've been quoted £450 for 6,000 Service...12,000 includes changing all fluids and tappets £600.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking circa £600 myself. I'm based in Edinburgh and the quote came from the main specialist in Scotland.
I think I will give them a call and do some haggling!

Cheers

<THREAD HIJACK ALERT FROM LOTUS OWNER THAT MAY CONVERT LMAO>

hi guys, quick service related question, am i right in saying any
mechanic can actually adjust the tappets if they have the settings?
also the fluid etc etc is like any car? just i have had bad experiences
with so called main dealers and specialist and i dont use them now, i
prefer to use a friend of mines garage instead, lotus services are around
the same price(ish) and they use no different equipment to my garage, which
cost all in 70gbp.

Always pay £300 + vat for 12k service from the most highly recommended TVR Indie in the North West. (I Know some people who travel from far away & have a night out in Manchester & stay in a nice hotel & still save money on what they would pay elsewhere) Ian is a former mechanic at Chris Neils who has always specialised in TVR & Lotus cars although he will do anything (even looks after my wifes lowly Civic)
See www.torquervt.co.uk/ for details.

Just done exactly what 'kippax' suggest's, in fact i caught the tale end of his de-cat set up, my ears have only just stopped ringing.
I travelled from the north-east to ian's and would recommend the trip to anyone.

A new outfit just getting going also in the North West is

www.trackvroad.co.uk

in Clitheroe, Lancashire

Quoting £399/£605 for 6/12month service,
and the schedule of what they do for that seems very comprehensive.

They come very highly recommended by all accounts, so I've a tough decision to make for my first ever service in my T350C, as I appear to be literally spoilt for choice with super quality Indies near me. clap

Regards
Spike

I will think about useing IAN in the future,it baffles me though that some people still quote £1000, and some like TORQUE RVT, and offords seem to be half this price, and they come highly recomended. how come the latter are so mush less.

Some great advice chaps......maybe best for me to take a trip south of the border and get the work done.
I agree with TOVIE....why can some charge half price for the same work???

Hard to believe i know, but some people run businesses in an honest, up-front, customer-friendly but business-like manner, and one of the primary reasons they set up (in addition to hopefully providing a good living for themselves and their family) is because they were fed up with being ripped off!!

Thing is, there's always people prepared to pay Dealer prices, because they think it affects their future re-sale value, that they have more come back, better factory support etc. etc., so there'll always be a market for Dealer servicing - I used to be one of those!

But the Indies will always survive simply because of better pricing, same (if not better) quality of work, more thorough, and honest assesment of what does need doing.

My humble opinion!

I stay in Falkirk and I travelled south and used Ian at TorqueRVT for the 6K service on my tuscan including Mot it cost £400 and that was with a tappet check and some adjustments.

Wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
