Twiddle gear lever

Although in the service history a couple of times the gear lever has been tightend up can anybody twiddle the lever a few degrees either way with light metalic clank at each extremity but otherwise perfect operation,or is mine got a special tvr feature(tuscan s)
Any thoughts or remidies

Paul,

Sounds like the grub screw which secures the gear-stick shaft onto the gearbox shaft is loose. You would need to remove the centre console, take off the gearknob (although you can get away with not removing it), lift up the carpet section around the gear-stick and handbrake and under the rubber shield you should just about see the grub-screw down on the shaft. Take it out, put a bit of loctite on the threads and tighten up. Bob's your uncle.

Just my opinion, of course, but I had the same thing on mine,

i found my reversing light was not working so took off centre consol to adjust angle of switch relative to gear lever shaft - I noticed that 'brass hook' attached to front of gear shaft which connects with switch has turned quite a few degrees anti-clockwise from where it was the last time I adjusted the switch, and therefore nowhere near the it. I've loosened but not removed the grub screw from near the base of the gear shaft but cannot turn the brass or steel gear shaft clockwise to 'straighten' it up. Should I try and use brute force or will this damage the shaft/gear box or am i doing something wrong?

The switch itself appears to be in the right position (from where I left it the last time) so it looks like cause of problem is the gear shaft turning anti-clockwise - how this has happened I do not know.

Your help is much appreciated.

I had mine all apart again today. I thought I had fixed it a couple of weeks ago, and thought it had simply moved again and would be a simple cash of adjusting and tightening the grub screw. Seems it's an electrical fault this time as hook thing is pressing the switch fine, it's not the bulb or fuse (assuming I checked the correct one as per the manual) so will have to get dealer to have a look when it gets it's MOT next week.

Bloody annoying I thought I had actually saved myself some cash for once!

Whitey, I gave up trying to twist the shaft - worried I might do some damage - so I adjusted the angle of the brass hook (for which read, I bent it!) towards the switch - it now works fine. There must be a more permanent fix for this very annoying problem. It's not like it spends much time in reverse and neither do I force it into reverse.

sorry to hear about your woes - seems like you've eliminated the usual suspects. Hope it's not too labour intensive to fix.
