The paint decided to fall off my boot release badge, so I took off all of the remaining paint, which came off scarily easy and painted it with matt black from my local model shop. I roughed up the area to be painted first to give the paint something to hold onto.
From a distance it looks OK, but close up it's as bumpy as anything. I don't have a problem painting around the word, but the finish is dreadful.
I could dig out my trusty airbrush and spray it, but then there's masking the word and the border.
Proper vitreous enamelling would be nice, but expensive - but might be worth exploring.
Has anyone repainted their boot badge with any success and if so, how the hell did you do it?

I have the same issue, but haven't taken the plunge yet with the enamel paint.
I did notice new badges being sold on ebay....worth a look.

Just changed my badge for a new one, bit fiddley getting the nuts back on, but the results are woth the effort, along with a bruised arm.

Send it back to Leven, and get it sorted properly.

I didn't know Levens did the badges. Mine's gold, did they do them too?

It takes a bit longer for gold but the finish is excellent at Leven, go for the upgrade

I did a nice job of refurbing mine (even if i do say so myself)

I used an acid etch, followed by black aerosol, then lacquered. Looks better than new.

If yours is rough and bumpy, then you probably used too course a paper on it or there's some sought of reaction happening.

Easiest option by far if you're no good at painting, and don't mind paying 30/40 quid for a badge, is to get one from Leven though.

When we refurbish badges they are stripped back to base metal, polished, plated (gold or chrome), painted (there is a limited range of colours) and the given a smooth clear plastic coating. For more details please call us.
