Thinking of getting a Tuscan
Discussion
I have been thinking of getting a Tamora but am now considering a Tuscan because decent used examples seem to start at a cheaper price.
Seeing the number of threads about problems on this forum has already concerned me though!
I have seen a car on Autotrader for 13,500. I dont know how to show the link but if you do a search for Tuscans for 13,500 I dont think you'll see many and the one I am talking about is Purple, W reg with 35,500 miles on the clock. I dont know where it is But it's 47 miles away from me in south warwickshire.
Does anyone know this car?
How much is the average yearly spend in keeping a Tuscan.

How long is a piece of expensive string?!?!
Depends entirely on which one you buy - there really is no short answer - you need to seriously read up on these hallowed pages and / or become friends with a long term Tuscan owner to help you with your purchase.....
Just because a Tuscan is cheap to buy - definitely does not mean it will be cheap to run - quite often the reverse is true!
agreed....do the homework b4 parting with yer money ! id pay attention to engine, clutch, service history...most important...dont buy without putting some money aside...just in case
id also say...dont get too scared, its easily done when u think that most people will be posting on the forums when they have problems ! speak to some owners..keep the scares in proportion
good news is that all the info and people you need are on this site

Bought a Tuscan Mk1 about 2 months ago. Fabulous car, paid 18250, negotiated the seller down from 20k to cover cost of new clutch and a set of Nitrons.
I reckon you should budget around this price for a good, reliable W or Y plate car. If you pay 13500, you'll spend the balance getting it up to good order anyway so my advice would be to save yourself the hassle and buy a good one to begin with.
Factor in that TVR ownership is different from Porsche ownership. My 1980 911 is bullet proof, gets a good £300 service every year and that's about it. My experienced TVR owning pals advise me to budget c. £3000 a year to run a Tuscan longer term. I'm hoping they're wrong.....

Ahah..JR. How the hell are you? How's the chinese food?
Words of wisdom on the Tuscan are based on the Porsche experience. For all those reading, an £11k 911 took an engine and gearbox rebuild, brake overhaul, new shocks and finally new front wings and a full respray before I was really happy with it. As per advice above, if I'd have gone out and spent £18k on a good one in the first place then I'd have saved myself a lot of hassle.
Remains to be seen whether a six year old Tuscan is more or less trouble and expense to run that a 27 year old 911. I'll keep you posted but all I've been told and read suggests my money will be going on Tuscan repairs.
JR - I'm in Manchester this weekend - Deep Purple on Sun night with Steve and Starsky but probably in Whaley on Sat night. See you there if you're about.
Splat 6 (a fellow TVR pal here has coined that as a good mix of Speed 6 and Flat 6). Might change to it.

Just bought a Xreg tuscan for 16,800 it has 20,000 miles on the clock last Febuary.
The advise I got from other owners is to check service history and that vital rebuid. I also have a bit in the war chest for the breakdown that I am sure will come with Tuscan ownership.
But the looks, sound and feeling you get when driving it are worth it
