Tuscan or 350Z?

Hi all – I've just joined the forums so by way of introducing myself could I ask a little favour …

I’ve got 20k to spend on a weekend car and was out on Saturday and a dark blue Tuscan went past me in a swirl of dust and beautiful noise and I decided I had to have one there and then.

Although a TVR has always been on my list (and at the top) of possibles when I came on this forum and had a read through lots of the posts and looked through the classifieds I have to admit to being more than a little scared at the propsect of keeping a Tuscan on the road given the number of stories about engine re-builds etc, etc.

So come on and persuade me not to spend my money on a 350Z which is the sensible option on my list.

I have a Tuscan Mk 1 as weekend toy/piece of art/mood enhancer/childhood reminder.

I drive a 4WD Audi A6 estate for everything else.

The Tuscan is in a different stratosphere to the 350Z in terms of emotional engagement.

I love it so much I've invested what I paid again to make sure I have the minimum amount of worries.

I'd only sell her if I could afford a Lamborghini Miura SV!

It's your choice though.....

2 very different cars, did consider a 350Z myself, along with RX8s etc etc

In the end got a mint Tuscan on 54 plate - If I had to make the same decision again, I would still have gone for the Tuscan - I use it all year and almost every day.

However, its a personal choice based on taste, needs, cash etc etc

If you want to blend in to the crowd then get the 350z. Nice looking car but not in the same league...

Strange isn't it... because of prices it's Tuscan vs 350z but it should be Nissan vs Boxter or Tuscan vs 911 Turbo... Funney eh?

Yes I realise they don't compare at all in terms of performance, and if that was the only consideration (what others are there I here you say) there would be no problem.

Nick - interesting to here your comments - do you mind if I was what you paid for yours and when, what sort of mileage you do and what you've had to spend on it roughly.

I know that if I bought the 350Z I will always be aware that it was second choice really.

for a weekend car...go for the tuscan ! test drive them both though....you'll be hooked

for 20k i imagine u'll prob b getting a private sale (i.e no warranty) so put the time in on this site for your homework...its all here !

make sure u budget for the emergancy repair fund...and the extras

it's the size of the 'emergency fund... and the extras' that I'm worried about!

i'm sure that once I'd driven them both there would be no competition

I was hoping someone would convince me that I won't be needing to spend half as much again to keep it on the road for the next 2-3 years.

dont be put off by the forums...just remember that most people will only post when they have a problem !

by extras i meant that insurance is usually high...and u mite want to buy ccc's (exhaust cans), maybe a cover etc...it all adds up...i spent best part of 200 quid on cleaning products

personally...ive had my car a year and havent spent any money until last week when i needed a new clutch !!...it wasnt a problem tho because id done my homework when i bought the car and new it would need one before long...therefore had the money ready and waiting

I got mine and its my first one private sale, for 19k now with the front end respray to tidy up the chips. Had a recent rebuild by tvr power. Dont have any emergency fund and dont care really. I think its great, love driving it and the car feels amazing. Makes you grin every time. I have Jap before this and while they are reliable and useable power, it just doesnt compare to the looks, stares, thumbs up, rev it mista and all the other greatness that goes with a TVR. Get the tuscan enjoy the summer come to Le Mans and just make the most of life, its too short to live with what if this happened or what if this did.

Thats just my view anyway, but do your homework, get the buyer guide, spend a while on the forum reading old posts then DO IT!

Indeed; do the research; ultimately, though, your passion for a car is what will drive you to get it, and pit up with it even if it blew up.
The 350Z will run on used dishwater; the Tuscan will shit its own engine out if you use the wrong polish.
If you buy it, you will define yourself as one of us- risk takers, with a few bob stashed away, and possibly even foolhardy. But fun. Buy, buy!

Its just about all been said.... but think of it from another angle....

There you are on a lovely summers day out in the countryside driving your shiney 350Z and just ahead in front you come upon a Tuscan with the roof off, shattering the quite countryside silence in its wake....You see that the Tuscan indicates to turn into the same carpark you were intending to..... do you drive on and think of what could have been, or do you take that turn and see what could have been from all angles.....thats if you can make your way past the crowd of people that have gathered around the Tuscan.....oh and theres a Porker 911 parked up a few cars away and no one has even noticed it.... Life is too short to live always looking back...

Thats just one angle of Tuscan ownership. The performance is indeed just as rewarding an experience... if it happens to go pop, so what, get it fixed, its only a weekend toy after all.
