Dipsticking - Correct top up procedure
Discussion
After a good run, when it's nice a warmed up, I normally stop the car on a level area and leave the engine running whilst I get some tissue or a cloth and open the service bonnet. Then turn off the engine, unscrew the dipstick, clean it and then just sit it back on top of the thread (don't do it up) and check the level. Do it again after about 30secs and compare the two. Approx 1 litre between max and min AFAIK.
Seems to work for me anyway

Do you get a false reading if you do it cold?
Out of interest... How loud is your car with the de-cat? Did you change the chip? What de-cat parts did you use? Does it still pass the emmissions?
A sound clip would be cool.

Yeah, I think you would get a very low reading when cold or, more likely, no reading at all.
The cats were removed by TVR Power and I bought their de-cat chip too which was modified for the Red Rose timing. The noise comes in several different rev ranges and just blows you away when the loud pedal gets pressed down hard
Passing emmissions remains to be seen, some say no but some say that the adjustments to the fueling in the eprom would help to conform to MOT requirements. Jury is out on that one but there are options... Shopping around for a digital camcorder at the mo so I am looking forward to getting some video sorted
Cheers

Shortlad, after a run up to temperature, let the engine idle until the first cooling fan comes on, wait for the fan to go off, stop the engine and check the dipstick, do twice if unsure,I find the difference between checking hot and cold is about half the dipstick (or half a litre of oil),always reads more when hot.
Shortlad, some dodgy phone camera vids fyi....

Photobucket has compressed the file and it looks really pixellated but you get the general idea....

Wow... I might be doing some de-catting. When is your MOT due? Interested to know if it would fail.
What does it sound like inside the car at cruising speed.
