Help with targa roof panel & ears! - (with picture)
Discussion
Can anyone help?
I have a leak on both sides of my roof. Right at the front corner of the roof. The edge sections of my roof (see picture) seem to be set back a little further than any other Tuscan I see. I can also see that someone in the past has glued/bonded the side bars back on(the bits that look separate to the rest of the roof).
How are these bits fixed? Screwed? Glued? Do mine look like they're in the wrong position?
Also I have a couple of bits missing connected with sealing the windows when they're up. There's a little 'ear' on the passenger side that's missing on the drivers side. Do these hold the window in tighter when up? Can I get hold of these?
On the drivers side I have 2 rubber seals, 1 the window sits against and the other the window runs up. The bit the window runs up is not on the passenger side. Is this a missing or additional bit? Can I get them?

The panel looks to be sitting 1/2 an inch too far back from the windscreen top rail as though the locating lug is holding it clear, but I presume the back edge is fitting ok. Also the side 'ears' should be flush with the rest of the panel.
Could be the original was replaced with an after market one?

Hi Phil,
Your roof panel looks a bit like mine.
Mine is an early 2000 Tuscan and had a seal missing from the drivers side roof.
Also like yours, mine is not fully up to the front window screen frame.
Sounds like you have a seal missing from the passanger side.
I am thinking of getting a new roof panel but I dont know how common this problem is and how good later roof panels fit.
If you e-mail me I will send some photo's by return.

When you say ears do you mean the overhang of the roof rubber or the plastic covered metal strip behind the A-pillar trim that pulls in the door glass?
The overhang of that roof rubber may have been done by factory/dealership to stop a leak, ie. so water runs away from the corner, where 2 rubbers meet.
The metal strip that pinches the door glass in tight when it reaches the top, is actually a long strip that runs along the top of the screen aperture, behind the screen.
I would buy a cover for it!!
As for the strange looking roof, I would take it to a good bodyshop to look at.

The ears are the plastic covered metal bits behind the A pillars. I only have 1 on the drivers side to assum that the other has been snapped off at some point. That'll be why I get wind noise from that side. The overhang of that roof rubber may have been done by factory/dealership to stop a leak, ie. so water runs away from the corner, where 2 rubbers meet.

The problem is that it leaks when I drive it in the rains. It lives in a garage the rest of the time.
Think I'll take your advice and see if I can get a boddy shop to look at it for me.
Cheers

Strange...has the car previously been in an accident?
The HPi is clear so no accident history. I also have all of the receipts from previous owners and no record of any repair work. It does have a dealer receipt for a new seal for the roof panel though so seems to be an on-going problem.I borrowed the factory Tuscan and it looked and leaked the same, I made some rubber wedges to fit in that gap. Only a temp fix but it kept my leg dry at Tatton Park last year. Heath Briggs told me there was a bit missing, so I think originally there was a filler piece. The problem was that hole between the window and the roof. Don't have the problem with the convertible, just get a wet leg when I open the window instead.

take it to a main dealer with experience of early tuscans ie TVR Centre Barnet and they will have numerous leak fixes.
Early cars roof fit was appalling, mine eventually went back to the factory to have a MK3 roof fitted. They Had 3 types of roof in the first 1.5 years.
Warranty nightmares the early Tuscans and not just for the engine.
