Expansion bottle cap

Anyone know where I can source an aftermarket replacement please? I think mine is on its way out,

I have one from Leven on mine it is much easier to undo than the standard VAG part.

Nick - did you mean the oil filler cap? Can't seem to find the water expansion bottle cap on the Leven website.

Would any VAG dealer have these in stock do you think? I need to rule out the cap before I start looking at a rad leak...

Halfrauds (or a proper outfit!) will cost you a lot less than a VAG dealer. £2-ish last time I bought one.

On the Leven site they are under Engine Caps and are £55.

Any VAG dealer would have these the part No on my spare cap is 443121 321

Will be checking it out in more detail tomorrow but it seems to leak a bit when good and hot and then settle down with fans working fine and temps staying below 96 - strange. I think I might have a hose leak or rad fracture somewhere. Either that or I have put to much water in when re-filling and it is spitting it out when warmed up - strange that it doesn't come out of the cap though (I checked) but seems to come from the bottom-offside of the rad/system.

Beware! you get what you pay for. I had one cheap replacement, which didn't 'replace' for very long. The VAG one is Mk1 Golf I believe. Replacement was £10 inc vat and post and has worked perfectly since.

Had no problems with Halfords parts - £2.48 IIRC, and it even kept a Chim with HGF under control

Do you really believe they are not all made in the same place?

Thanks for the info guys, very useful. It's looking like it must be a rad fracture or a hose leak though as the fluid is not escaping out of the cap after all...

Will be getting it pressure tested to see if that reveals where the problem is,

If it´s an early all alloy rad then they can crack around the seam where the support brackets are welded to the sides.

Not sure, it is the original 2001 one as far as I know but the description makes sense. Replacement rad then?..

The all alloy ones can be repaired. If later one with plastic end pieces then it's a replacement job.
