Toyo Proxes or Bridgestone S02s

I can still get hold of Bridgestone S02s, and as they were the tyre to end all tyres when they were generally available, I've been wondering whether to go for them over a set of Toyo Proxes on the Tuscan.

I remember putting S02s on my old MX-5 and was just astounded at the grip and level of feedback and predictability they gave. But also, I don't really have any complaints with the Toyos ... although they're two different cars anyway.

The S02s are more expensive (by about £30 a tyre), so any ideas what I should go for? :-/

Apparently if you badger your Bridgestone dealer to ring the head office in the UK there are still some on the shelf.

I got brand new SO2's on the back of the Tuscan only a couple of weeks ago. My dealer, David Gerald TVR, sourced them.

I have Toyo Proxes on my Rover Coupe, very good for that sort of car but I can't vouch for them on a TVR...

TVR in conjunction with tyre partner Toyo Tyres are proud to announce some major changes and new developments. Toyo are the first supplier of tyres to TVR to develop a unique range for their models. From mid June 2003 the 18" TVR fitments will include a special compound and associated side wall marking. These tyres will be available only from TVR dealers.

I think I'm going to try the S02s again. They're to go on the rear of the car anyway, and I get through sets of rears in about 6-8k miles! I'll let you know where I can get them from when I've confirmed that they are actually available and not just some old stock listing.

Yeah, car's been pretty good since the rebuild. Not really had it out much tho, thanks to our glorious sunshine (not).

Same reason I've not got any good vids at the mo. Lots will probably come from the Le Mans trip, tho I might go have a play on some empty roads this weekend, armed with a camcorder and a few mounts..

Does anyone have any other suggestions instead of these two like Pirelli P Zero or Michelin Pilot?

SO 2s are the best but hard to find, Proxes are a good alternative and cheaper, Eagles supposed to be good but kin costly.

edited to add, every tyre dealer I speak to agrees that the SO2 was the best and a lot of people are not happy with the SO3, hopefully this will filter back to Bridgestone

TVR still recommend Toyo's officially and don't have an unofficial choice

Having had both on I'd still re-buy Toyos, they have the edge on the handling hands down!

maybe don't last as long though!!!
