loud pop and white smoke!!

Got the tuscan out this afternoon, had a small drive to the local and when I got back in, all ready for a saturday afternoon blast, turned the key and the loudest pop and white smoke from the engine and white smoke out my cans. with my mate grabing the fire extingusher out the pub while I got my bonnet off (1st time I have seen my engine). Smoke had cleared, no fire(thank the man upstairs)and nothing out the ordinary. Pushed my luck and turned the key, started first time and alot quiter than before, running sound. Any ideas??

Sounds like a bit of a backfire, it's not particularly hard to get a flash back into the inlet manifold which can seem quite spectacular. Worth making sure nothing in the area of the intake has been damaged. This is the sort of thing that can damage plastic/carbon/silicon intake components.

Was it the cat converter going bang ? usually gives bit of a noise

aint gota clue what it was but today when it gets up to 2200, 2500 revs it spluters but past 2500 revs its fine., into the garage I thinks
