RAC or AA for Tuscan

I've had my MK1 Tuscan for a year with no major troubles but will be embarking on a Portsmouth to Edinburgh roundtrip this weekend and need to join one of the recovery services to be on the safeside -does anyone have any opinion about which is better for TVRs?

On a separate note my driver door shut sensor seems to be hit and miss, has anyone else had this experience and found a solution?

Cant help with the door switch, however, I can recommend the RAC. I had one occasion when my throttle cable snapped and they were able to fix it at the road side.

Interesting, so did they actually remove the main bonnet at the roadside? Do you know if they carry the battery leads with the plug on too for jump starting?

Im sure AA and RAC mechanics are all really good, but I personally wouldnt want them tinkering. Even if it is an "easy" fix.

I'll have them take the car to a TVR specialist and I'll take the hire car thanks. thats what I pay for anyway!

If you go AA get the "breakdown insurance" for about £60 they will pay the first £500 of any breakdown repairs. lots of people on here have said how good it is and have made multiple claims.

I remember my 04 plate Tuscan had a problem with the engine flooding a lot. It did so outside my house. The AA guy turned up and between the 2 of us we took the bonnet off and he stripped out the plugs - dried them - put them back in and boom we got it going. The only agreement was I had to take him for a spin in it. :-D

I had an AA guy (on a friend's cover) try to recover me from a clutch slave cylinder that had gone. He insisted on removing the bonnet to have a look, and then tried starting the car whilst in gear. Really pissed me off.

I've now got Europ Assistance which includes home start and European cover for £59 which gives me up to 6 call outs a year. Usually they hear "TVR" and send a flatbed truck. They don't seem to do overnight storage if your TVR garage isn't open though.

Most recently I had a flat battery and asked them to send out someone with an Andersen connector on the jump leads. 50 mins later a truck with jump leads that had an Andersen connector turned up.

Before I rang the RAC I had already removed the bonnet, the airbox, and the plate behind the pedals so it was an easy fix for him. He had no problems with putting it all back together though. Don't know about the anderson plug, but I would have thought he would have had one.

The AA have done me proud. 3 times my clutch has gone (that's another story grrrr!) and they've taken the car to my choice of garage without any quibble or drama. I've more than had my money's worth out of them.

good experiances with call outs, even when its has majically fixed its self by the time they turn up.

mechanical insurance is well worth it, had my moneys worth out of it (and the recovery)

I've had the AA out three -flat tyre, broken rad and once for a clutch. All three times they were there in around 1 hour, droped me @ home and took my car wherever I wanted.

They took a little persuasion over the tyre as they kept asking where the spare was. They sem to outsouce the low loaders to companies that are used to pisking up cars low to the ground.

Go for the AA and also take out their Parts & Labour cover.

I have full AA cover with their warranty policy too (the £500, 4 claims per year thingy), never had an issue with them and used them twice (once for the Chim and once for the Tuscan which turned out to be a false alarm) with no issues whatsoever. Just make sure you call them first before you do anything else - they must send someone out first for a warranty claim to get the ball rolling. From there you can pretty much dictate to them where you want to send the car etc but if you don't have the call-out first, they will NOT honour the warranty cover.

Sounds a good deal. So lets say with AA full cover if I broke down somewhere in Scotalnd, they would organise a hire car for 48hrs for me to continue my trip and be willing to take my car on a low loader all the way back down to my local garage near Portsmouth? If so I'm signing up today

Ive been with the AA for a while and no problems with them, most times they turn up with the anderson connector, when youn tell them its a battery problem, Always seem to turn up in less than half an hour aswell..
