Passed the MOT

Hi all,
Took the Tusc up to Dom at Power last week for its MOT and I was delighted to hear it passed through with no probs. Dom also took a look-see at the running of the engine, particularly the inlet manifold and fiddled with the TB balance and air/fuel mix, changed the pots for new (which was something I have been thinking about doing) and put in the most up to date RR eprom. The engine is now running a lot smoother and steadier than before. Almost no hesitance now on low and constant throttle and the acceleration "curve" appears to feel a lot more solid and smooth. Had an engine mount changed too which was a little suspect and this has reduced the perceived "transmission shunt", if you know what I mean - just feels more together really.
All in all, I was considering a re-map but it goes to show that a bit of care taken to set up the balance of things and a lot can be gained. Suspension upgrade is next on the list....

Kind of, in a round-about way. I noticed after putting the water wetter in that the water temps took a little longer to come up and the fans seemed to have a greater impact on cooling the water down when needed. Only a small change really so I checked the fluid levels in the coolant by slowly putting a pint of just water in the header tank. The tank took the pint and a little more before anything stayed in the filler spout. After that, the running temps seemed to be improved - again taking a little longer to rise up to 2nd fan cut-in point when idling and cooling quicker too.
When Dom had a look at it, he told me that a couple of the cylinders were running out of true (lean mostly I think) and needed adjusting - this seems to have had an impact on the way the water temps are now reacting (peak temp and rate of rise etc) which could make sense.
So, all in all, there have been improvements but it is a little tricky to pin-point exactly where these have come from. I think the fact that there was only coolant (3.5litres of antifreeze according to Fernies) put in the system, the water wetter didn't really have a chance to have an impact. Most systems, apparently, tend to find their own level so it isn't a big deal if you add a little too much water on top - which is why I put in the extra 1 & 1/2 pints. I think this addition of water helped the water wetter to have an impact. I also think the balancing of the air/fuel ratio per cylinder/TB helped to even things out and let the system itself run as it should do.
I am happier now with it, that's for sure!
