May be a silly question but is it any cheaper to have the Sp6 top end rebiult before it goes pop as a preventative measure rather than having it done when it goes bang?

Cheers

I recently had mine done.
I was quoted around 4,5k for full rebuild + parts + fitting etc and advised the top end only would be about a 1k less.
The full rebuild gets either 1 or 2 years warrantee depending on who does the job.
All advised me that, as the wear materials from valve guides etc will have travelled down to the bottom of the engine, the bottom should also be done ("no question&quotwink.

As it turned out, my bottom end bearings etc were well and trully shot.

I had a problem only a few weeks later and was very glad to have the warrantee.
All thanks to my wife for telling me to get it sorted properly. thumbup

Wow that's expensive 4.5K plus parts and fitting. What's the total?

I dont have the bills with me but I think that it was 6,7k
Plus I had a number of electric problems and a bit of paintwork (service bonnet respray) and new pepper grill. Total was 9k.
Must admit that I have since been told I could have had it done a lot less expensive by a good local Indi.

That was Feb and now just had new wheels and tyres, gold shocks, geometry and 12k service another 3k.
My wife got me the SP12 alloys for my birthday. She's a star.

Anyway, spent a lot of money but hopefully main things are sorted.

Sorry Saulk i'm rabbiting on your thread.

No problem.

A few cars i've been looking at have had the rebuild but I assume it is just the top end that is normally rebuilt??

Could be that most only get the top end done but I dont know.
All the advise to me was that you should ("must&quotwink get the whole job done.
It would be interesting to hear comments.
Str8 Six sent me photo's of the wear. Pity I dont know how to post them.
