My alternator belt was slipping, took the lid off the car to find two of the bolts holding the alternator on had snapped, I replaced the two bolts but on start up the belt still slips, I need to get the belt tighter, I was only able to tighten the belt by pulling the alternator by hand and then tightening the bolts - how do I get the belt tighter?

I take it this issue is too complicated for any feedback!

didn't see it before.

had the same issue, found that the pulley on the alternator did not match the groves in the belt or engine pulley, obviously not ideal.

sourced the correct pulley (no thanks to the numpty Porsche garage trying to fix it or TVR main dealer with the wrong parts)

works a lot better, but still needed a fair amount of tension. get a bar between the chassis rail and the alternator and lever up until you think the belt will snap, then keep going a few more degrees. and hay presto electrictrickery.
(note if you put what you think is sufficient tension in the you'll be stuck with a flat battery and haveing to take the airbox out again to get the correct tension in)furious

Thanks Custardkid, I will give it a go at the weekend, by the way, did you manage to get a new belt? if so, where did you get it? is it just a standard type of belt, or unique to TVR's?

try tvr car parts, think belt was £10-£20
(is that about right or expensive?)
