Water leak - I have a plan? Will it work?

My MK1 Tuscan leaks water in the rain (nothing unique in that I know) - the water seems to enter where the black plastic trim at the front end of the door glass meets the rubber surround on the A Frame. The water that seeps in seems to follow the line of the rubber seal around the door frame until it reaches the bottom and then drips out over the rubber seal into the footwell.

I was wondering if I cut out a section of the rubber trim at the bottom - no more than say 1cm - whether this will solve the problem by allowing the water to escape under the door (and out of the car) rather than into the car?

What do you think? Are there any flaws in my plan? Has anyone done this or found another solution (other than putting a cover over the car)?

I had a leak issue with my mk1.I'm not to sure where your describing it coming in but i'll tell you how i fix mine.It leaks where the roof meets the a pillar and window stops.It runs down the rubber door seal into the footwell.
I have cured it by adding an additional seal ontop of the original.I use a p profile door/window seal from B&Q,only costs about £10 for loads.It's only a few mm thick and just adds enough to force the seal.I remove the roof and run it down the original seal to the footwell.I have to replace it every couple of months which is no problem and it works great.Seeing as mine lives outside it gets tested a lot.

If you look at the bottom of the door where it fits up against the seal, there should be a 'cut-out/indentation' in the door. From what Dave at automedon told me was the seal should be 'crimped' (outer part of the seal pinned downward and back on itself) here. this will allow for the water to run down the seal, to the cutout and onto the sill and out.

Thanks for your comments. John, I'll have a look at the weekend to see what I think you mean. I guess if there's no crimp that that could be the cause of the problem. Will investigate.

managed to inspect the seal - there is no sign of any crimping - there is a section (about 1cm) which is cut away but the section seems to have been cut out from the centre of the seal i.e. the top and bottom remain in tact(if you can follow my explanation). I've not yet taken the step to remove the rubber at the top and bottom of this cut away section - I'm weighing up my options which includes running the car down to TVR Barnet for them to have a look at it!

I'd be interested to know what other people's solutions have been. Not keen on temporary fixes like attaching rubber strips to the door frame, however, successful.
