My drivers door release button under the mirror has refused to work today,it works from the inside but not outside? now this is what i have checked:
The fuses
Had a look at the decoder(as the window and remote alarm closure are ok)probably a waste of time
Checked the wiring behind interior door locking button(this actually doesn,t work any way)
As a last resort i stripped down the door mirror its self to check the wiring on the button this is a sealed unit with the wires siliconed in place.
The only thing that now springs to mind is the button/switch itself, does any body know whether this component is a known failure problem or is there something obvious im over looking? luckily today was a glourious day so the windows were down and it was just a matter of leaning through the window and pressing interior door release to get in.Any help greatly appreciated before a trip to a dealer(Hawthorns open weekend)
oh and the Tuscan and Porker 996 turbo are evenly matched in 3rd/4th gears!!

Looks like it Tony - wish I could help. I take it that when pressing the button, it does not make any attempt to open, can't hear anything clicking etc and therefore definitely electrical?

My car keeps blowing fuses for no apparent reason meaning a trip into the darkest reaches of the footwell. Swap the fuse over and its fine. Its almost as if fuses have a natural life span like light bulbs and then pack in when they've had enough of life.

Sounds like you've done a fair bit of investigation on this problem and ruled out the obvious causes. Good luck.

I cant help on the mirror button, but my interia door lock also does not work - is this normal? was it a mod when they changed the door open catch to the radio position?

have you pressed the panic button thing near the imobiliser slot ?

I have used this to lock the doors from inside and it seems to stuff up the passenger door external button and boot release untill I have locked the car and unlocked it again from the outside.

I have a problem this morning, I pulled the car out of the garage onto the road, got out locked the car and the windows duely went up. Now the doors won't open and neither will the boot. I suspect it might be a fuse, however I cannot get into the car.

Can someone please give me a ring on xxxxx xxx xxx to tell me how to get in (The manual is in the boot and so I can't look myself).

Thanks

Bob

Did the internal lock button get pressed by something falling over on the parcel shelf, or did a fuse go ?

Cheers,

Andy.

Tony,
I have had problems with the boot opening, which is slightly annoying when the fuel filler is within. Needed to collect some Booze today which was difficult without a boot, called at Racing Green, who obliged, fixed, without a charge and no apparent inconvenience. No idea what caused the fault, did,nt ask!!.
Are you going to visit on Jan 18th?, hoping to arrange a meet. Log fires, food, real ale etc.

The internal lock button was being pressed by the camera that I had in the shelf I've learnt my lesson on that one I hope

I just spent a few hours sorting out the boot release on mine today. You could hear the actuator working but without the boot opening. I called Peninsula, who were very helpful but in the end I resorted to the mechanical opening method. I didn't have enough fuel to take it anywhere far and was reluctant to drive far with the boot open. There was nothing visibly amiss as the actuator cable appeared to be intact and the actuator was operating correctly but it still wouldn't operate the release. Out came the spanners and I took it all apart. I was really quite shocked to discover that the plastic surround on the boot catch which holds the standing part of the cable captive was cracked in several places and had been repaired, at some point in the past, with brown silcone mastic - that well known professional repair medium. I tried to superglue it without success before resorting to that other well known repair medium - gaffa tape. If anyone knows which ford the part originates from let me know so that I can nip down the scrappy for a 'new' one.
