Heater ECU needed

Hi everyone

Looking for some help, my 489 heater ecu has melted a pin, which has droped and turned black, clearly too much heat coming from somewhere. Now my heater works "intermittently" - not good at this time of year - can't see a damn thing in the mornings.

3 questions therefore

Anyone know a quick but reliable fix......?

Anyone know if this part is TVR only or could I get a replacement from another manufacturer who used the same part.

If it is TVR only, anyone know where to get one from.

Your help as always would be appreaciated.

Same problem for me, it also melted the wiring loom side of the plug. Have re wired a new plug, but no luck finding an early 426 ecu. I do however have a 489 ecu, so im replacing the console heater switches end and the two parts should work.

Spoke to Douglas Valley today and they have a 489 ecu in stock, dont think it will be cheap as they want £130 inc vat delivery for my center console bit!!

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and have to start with this old, but still very hot topic... hence my baby is stuck in Italy.
The heater ECU (part n° ME 0489) is defective and it seems to be a true challenge to find one. (I tried Bell Hill and some independent dealers already)

Anybody has a working spare one somewhere ?

It is a bit of a long shot but I wonder if all TVR electrical ECU's were supplied by MBE. If you contact them they may be able to advise.

PS A bit of advice, scour Ebay regularly and buy up such spares as they come available, it's what I have done.

My 2000 Tuscan MK1 has already had a new Heater ECU.

The heater and aircon switch is working fine, but although the Heater Fan Blower control LED's all light up etc and it appears to work, the heater fan blower does not operate. I have checked the fuse etc.

Can anyone tell me if this is a symptom of a failed Heater ECU?

I have sourced a secondhand ME0489 from Ebay - just in case.

I have contacted both SBD (Silent But Deadly?) motorsport and MBE (Members of the Britih Empire?)Systems via Email enquiring as to the original source and await replies.

Had replies and SBD and/or MBE were not suppliers of the ME0489 heater ECU.

Anyone got anymore suggestions?

I think from looking inside the cct board of my old one, they are a cobble together of tvr own making. The plugs that melt out are Solariou (spelling) can be brought from Farnell.com and replaced easy enough. Board its self has got tvr made stamps on it, so not sure who they would have got to make it up. Im tring to rememeber the name of the ecu guru on the cars. RAcing green have them for sale or refurb but at quite a cost..

Latest info I got is that (currently) you can't get any new 489 ECU nowhere, but only try to get the original (made by TVR factory) fixed i.e. via TVR Power...which obviously takes some time.

Anybody able and willing to borrow or sell me a spare one until I got my defective one back from repair ?

I also found out that the first Tuscans were build with a ME 0246 heater ECU.
As from middle of 2003 TVR switched to building in the ME 0489

@ Chequred Demon: Based on this info, your spare one from e-bay should not suit your Mj.2000 Tuscan.... Would you be willing to sell it to me ? PLEASE :-)

Sorry this is not realy my field directly but:
At work (manufacturing)my engineering team tend to come accross a lot of PCB's that are obsolete and we send them to a supplier who test and can repair or remanufacture. If it is a basic/simple pcb I am sure this can be done (its not necasserily cheap, but you could send it and ask)
If this is an avenue you would like to explore, I could get the details for you?

Also it is possible to use the later heater ecu, with an early car. But like me you have to change the center console end of the heater controls, the board with the LED's for the later one, as the wiring is in a different order. This cost me £120 from RG. you may be able to rewire it, but its again a little pcb board..
