Not too bad for first offer but remember never accept their first offer. Tell them you want £17k & you should end up settling around £16.5k

Have you asked what they want for the salvage? May be worth looking at especially with a good engine?

In April I paid £16,000 for my 2000 Tuscan but it did have 37,000 (ish) miles on the clock (less that 2k into a £7k re-build). It was advertised for £17,300 but needed some jobs doing to it like tyres, front disks and pads and the inerior was a bit tired. I've done loads of work and spent about £1,200 on it so far so I would hope to get £16,000 back for it now.

With that in mind I would think yours is worth at least £16,500. What colour is it? Mine is reflex purple which I think was quite an expensive option and mine has air con and 18" wheels, these things all affect the second hand value.

If you're going to keep the car it may be worth buying back. I know someone who owns an insurance brokers and he advised me against buying a Cat D in the past as it was up for too much money. He said that some insurance companies are a bit funny about paying out twice on a total loss so never pay anywhere near what the car is worth if it was a non-total loss.... if that makes sense. So if you go to sell it in the future as a repaired Cat D keep this in mind, you'll have to drop your price accordingly.

I would think your engine is worth a few grand on its own if it's only 3k into a rebuild. I would certainly consider it if I needed it. The parts off the car are valuable as well like window and heater control boxes and then there's the body panels that have no damage.

In my experience, cars cost a lot more to put back on the road than you may at first think. I had a relatively light front-end crash in an M3 about 6 years ago and that ended up costing about £6k to fix. That was a BMW dealer fix though.

If you have it repaired document the repair with pictures to assure any future buyer that the damage was front only and has been fixed properly.
