after my flat battery japery the bloody immobiliser now refuses to disable. Solid red light next to the pod and the little fob thingies dont seem to work.

I had a little search and the general concensus appears to be disconnect the battery for a bit to reset the alarm.

Is this the right course of action to take?

cheers

Yep worked for me, but when reconnecting the battery make sure you attach the positive first to avoid damaging the ECU.

phew, thank god for the search function, the battery lives in the passengers side wheel arch!!

Now I need to work out a decent jacking point!!

I don't understand what difference it would make which terminal you connect first. Can you explain why connecting the negative first could possibly damage the ECU?

I'm not trying to be funny - I'm trying to learn something

Instead of disconnecting the battery take fuse 29 (I think) out for a couple of seconds. Works the same as diconnecting the battery.

This happened to me after a flat battery and it does work.

You won't cause any short circuits if you catch metallic car components when attaching the positive connector with the negative disconnnected. Do it the other way round and you would, as the negative terminal is the 'live' side for want of better description.

I assume the short would create some sort of spike that could damage the ECU via the earthing points.......of course, that could be a load of turkey-fuelled bcensoredcks. smile

I've got just the same problem on my Tuscan 2, does fuse 29 do the same job on the Tuscan 2?

Fuse 29 is the alarm/imobliser battery supply on the Tuscan 2 so would be the same.
