Difference between Mk1 and Mk2 targa roofs??

Hi PH collective, anyone know if there are any differences between a mk 1 and mk2 targa roof i.e. on the catches, design and fit etc? Really trying to find out if a Mk2 roof will fit into a Mk1 and whether it is the same "clever" design with the side trim stuck on? Many thanks!!

I've noticed some Mk1's have floopy plastic roof edges rather than GRP, and they don't seem to fit properly and now look warped. Not part of the Targa but the roof edges.

Too right they flop, they appear to be made from GRP but are rather flimsy and I think come loose with repeated storage in the boot, usually catching the boot seal! Are you inferring that the mk2 ones are one piece? Cheers

MK2's have a one piece roof which is a much better fit although quiet a bit heavier. The original MK1's had removable side pieces and no central catch, although most were retrofitted with this as the roof had a tendency to come off at speed.

I think there were about 3 or 4 versions of the roof panel on Mk1 Tuscans over the years. I'm not sure when, but the 3 piece original roof was replaced with a 1 piece moulding fairly early on (2001/2?)

Hi Nugget,
Mine is a 2000 Tuscan with the 3 piece roof. Although the two edge pieces are well and truelly attached, one is a little warped and when fitted I feel they make a fairly poor alignment with the car body.
I purchased some above door seal recently which lead me to discover that there are a number of different seal designs.
If a more modern design fits, I think it would be a big improvement for mine.
Hope some one on here who has owned both a Mk1 and Mk2 can comment.
