Head Gasket gone or someone put a cappuccino in my oil tank!

All,
Balls... Went to check Oil yesterday and found that it had turned to the lovely cappuccino colour!

Question 1. how much should the head gasket repair cost for a Tuscan ?
2. Who would people recommend to carry ou the work ?

Hi Andy,
Check your water for the milky deposit as well.
I thought mine had gone in Germany before Christmas but it was only due to condensation in the neck of the Aluminium oil tank. My water tank was clean.
I called Ian at TorqueRVT who told me to make sure the car temp is up to approx 60deg (water) before driving in very cold weather.

Would a oil change now be needed as water is in the oil ? did you have yours changed ??

Hi Andy, I am not realy sure. I guess it depends on how much water but I believe everone has the same problem in the cold weather.
Ian at TorqueRVT told me to keep checking it and that if I did as he had told me then it would disappear. I have been checking regularly and it has reduced over the last 6 weeks.
I drove back from Germany last week and checked it when I got home and its all cleared up.
I am having a service next week so have not considered an oil change before hand.

Glad to here your water is clean. It was a bit of a shock when I found it as I have not long had an engine rebuild and was realy upset when I thought a gasket had gone.

Before you start panicking about this sort of thing, bear in mind that it's perfectly normal to get condensation in the oil and this time of year it's easy to build up a lot of it if the engine isn't getting really hot. It's certainly not conclusive evidence of head gasket failure.

Look for oil contamination in the water, if you have this there is definitely a problem and it's probably HGF. It's also cheap and quick to test for exhaust gasses in the coolant, which is a strong indication of head gasket failure.

Been giving the car a good blast today and shes running sweet as... Checked water and no sign of any oil.

So hopefully just a false alarm.

There's a chemical tester often called a 'block tester', it just sucks air from the filler neck through a solution which changes colour if hydrocarbons are present in the gas. As a quick and dirty test you can also just blip the throttle with the filler open, if you get foam spraying out that suggests you have a major leak between the cooling system and the chamber. A block tester will pick up far smaller leaks though.
