Hi fellas,

Whilst driving my car over the last week trying to run it in I have had something strange happen, going around a roundabout it felt like the power steering stopped working, the steering became very stiff. Only for a second or two but never the less it took me by surprise.

Can anyone shed any light on this please, as once the car is run in, I can drive it with a bit more spirit, I'm sure this would become quite hairy.

Thanks

Dean

I remember a magazine reporting the same thing on one of the original tests. From memory it was either the power steering pump or valving. I think the problem was only when quick inputs were needed like corrective locks- not very helpful I know but hopefully if it is valving and a known problem straight forward to correct. HTH

My power steering went intermittently at startup time, faulty PAS relay, replaced and no problems since. PAS on Speed Six is electrical not run off the engine like a Rover V8. Never actually happened whilst driving I'm glad to say. From stationary I could hardly turn the wheel with two hands pulling the wheel, scared something would break!!!.

From his profile it looks like Dean has a T1 which as far as I know were all hydraulic, the T2 has electric steering.

Just a thought but did you check the PAS fluid level?

My rack went like this - it was using fluid though. Eventually it needed to be rebuilt as the seals had gone.
