Loss of speedometer reading?
Discussion
Speedo pick up is via a toothed wheel and sensor off the diff. These are known to fail if they get dirty, or wet. Mine went last year after our lovely dry summer.... but came back after everything dried out. I'm not sure you'll have done anything under the bonnet to effect the pick-up.
It may be worth checking the fuse board to see if the speed sensor fuse is shared with anything which you may have touched.

Often caused by wet conditions....reducing the transducer gap (near rear axle/diff) has been known to fix the problem quickly and cheaply, your service/dealer should be able to do it in minutes or do it yourself if you can get the car up on a ramp (as previous thread demonstrated http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... )
