Which RON petrol are you using?

As the title says, what petrol are you all using?

Read the booklet at the garage the other day and it says 95 for day to day use and 98 for track days. I would have thought that 98 would be best for the engine and it's performance and should use that all the time.

I've read a few posts regarding the make of fuel to put into it and people saying stay away from Supermarket fuels. Not to worried about that, closest petrol station to me is esso. Also heard from someone who works in the Grangemouth pumping station that the fuels are virtually identical for all the garages and companies so shouldn't make a difference.

I use Tesco 99 ron, as thats my local.

Seems to work well, with good pops and bangs on the over run.

I used to use Shell Optimax but couldn't really tell the difference when driving between that and standard Shell petrol other than a lighter wallet, so it's standard Shell fuel for me. I've never done a track day though.

As long as your car is tuned when the tank is full of the fuel you'll be putting in, then I don't see a problem using whichever fuel you prefer.

Shell V-Power(99 RON) but I couldn't believe the price last week £1.20(.9) . In the Summer it was £1.00 (.9).

I use 95 for day to day use as I don´t think it matters when stuck in traffic and Tesco 99 for summer fun.

i spoke to the previous owner of mine & he said he used super unleaded all the time, but as the OP said, the car manual says 95 octane is fine...

so whats the general concencus?

also does the ECU adapt to different fuels?

My book also states 95 but the car doesn't like it so only used a couple of tank fulls when new. I generally use BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power. I have used the Tesco 99 on the odd occasion but didn't notice much difference.

ECU doesn't know which fuel you are using because there are no knock sensors, as far as I understand it.

On my 2000 Tuscan I use 95 most of the time as it did not seem to make much difference using higher octane fuel.However on my 2006 Tuscan S use 97 or 98 as the engine seems a bit more responsive than with 95.

I asked myself the same question when I read that Wilder Engine piece.
I've been using 95 forever per the manual.
I asked Power who said I was ok because I'm higher than sea level here, but could switch to 98.

So that's why the factory set the later cars to such an elevated ride height.
