HAND BRAKE SLIPPING ADVICE PLEASE

I've got a 2001 tuscan which i've owned for 5 months now with no problems. For the first time today when I sat in the car it started moving back ( i have an uphill drive) the hand brake was on but seemmed to be slipping. Any advice on what needs to be done. Is it simple enough for a normal garage to deal with as my tvr specilist is a bit far and always booked up for a month.

i've owned 3 tvrs, and even after a service i would never rely on the handbrake only to hold it on an incline. not sure there's much that can be done to be honest.

It's strange but my Tuscan handbrake seems to work rather well for a TVR, not sure if they are adjustable etc, may be worth checking the rear brake pads to make sure they have plenty of meat on them.

I'm pretty sure they are adjustable and I would imagine most garages, TVR or not, should be able to set it up better for you. Similar to what Paul said - mine seems to work great but I know that "usually" they're not great - just one of those things eh....worth getting it looked at though.

Had my Tuscan for 2yrs now never had a prob with the handbrake,works very well on an incline......Yes they are adjustable,theres a nylon locknut under the rear of the car near the diff.....May be its just a matter of a slack cable,or you could have a prob with the self adjusters on the rear calipers....sometimes these seize up,have you checked your pads...?

I had the same.

To be honest, I still wouldnt trust it even if it was supposedly working at 100%.

If you are parking it on your drive that way a lot, then invest in two large bricks. Otherwise, it is only a matter of time until the worst happens...

It's a standard Ford brake caliper so any Ford garage can adjust/check them for you. They use the same pads as the rear brakes so if your pad depth is low, your handbrake is the last thing I'd worry about!! I have a problem where 1 side works and the other side doesn't and have been advised it needs a new cable. Both rear brakes work fine, it's just the hand brake on 1 side in my instance. They are fairly simple to take apart etc so get your wheel off this weekend and have a go! Google for 'Ford rear brake adjust' or similar and look for pictures etc. HTH.

Thanks for advice everyone, the rear pads look like they got about 4mm left on them so i'll fit new ones. Hope it sorts out problem.
