B****CKS......just lost roof.....
Discussion
Just picked up car from APM feeling all happy as he had given it a clean bill of health (first service I’ve given it).
Hit the dual carriageway, started to accelerate then it all went wrong.
The roof lifted up, slammed down on my head (not 100% how) then disappeared into the darkness.
Luckily no one behind me. Look's like one of the latches may have been undone.....
Spend about an hour looking for roof - useless in the dark but importantly its not in the road.
Gunna go back tomorrow to look in the light but pretty certain it will be mashed.
Car is OK - its taken the paint off at the back of where the roof fits in but nothing terrible.
So....where do I get a new roof? Is this going to be a fortune....
I'm now sitting with a cracking head ache feeling miserable!!

jeez, bad luck. As Andy said did the front inside clip break? Did yours have one?
I would have thought it will not be hard to get another roof, but it's likely it will need to be fitted to yours as they are all slightly different. (or at least they were on early cars)
Well finally found it after 2 hours ripping my flesh open in the undergrowth.I would have thought it will not be hard to get another roof, but it's likely it will need to be fitted to yours as they are all slightly different. (or at least they were on early cars)
Its fine apart from where the retainer goes in where the fibreglass is ripped - nor sure if its repairable or not (anyone know who I could take it to?)
I did not have a front retainer clip - I've asked TVR Power about it before and they said they rarely fitted them and did not think it was necessary...not so sure now.
Been quoted about £500ish for a roof and it would need painting on top of that.
How are they all different? Can't see how they would be adjustable?
Grrr...this is looking like I won't see much change from £1k!

Thats truly awfull, sorry to hear that.
However, please give more info so that we can all avoid it happening to us. Its hard to imagine how it can happen with the front clip properly engaged?
Do tell more...........
Will definately be getting front clip on next roof, although I'm not convinced that it would have held it in if one of the levers is in the wrong position.

I'm considering some sort of locking device for the release levers - anyone fitted one?
I was just going onto the duel carriageway, accelerating at about 70% from 40ish to 70 - nothing outrageous.

hand made car so all the openings will be slightly different, wouldn't be supprised if the roofs were individually finished. but if your painting it any what a bit of rubbing down wont be an issue.having said that my replacement grill fitted with out any profileing.

Sorry to hear this, glad you found the roof. You could try Liphook Coachworks. They did a fixed the rear splitter on my T350 when I managed to rip it off (don't ask). They did a very good job. I don't have anumber for them but if you can't find it you caould call Fernhurst as that's who they get to do bodywork repairs.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Sorry to hear about that mate! and at least it didn't hit anyone!
basically the cars were finished off and shut lines completed to each car.
think of it as a one off suit! Tailored to fit.
you can buy a second hand one and re-gap it and paint to suit your car or repair shouldn't be a problem!

Sorry to hear that Ben, I hope its fixed or sorted soon for you, how is the car feeling now after the rest of the service??
Was nice to meet you at the Hants meet the other weekend, hope the run out in my Tuscan with the nitrons gave you food for thought.
I have just got the new TVR Power decat chip for mine and it feels even better now. Got the old Eprom upgrade chip for sale if your interested??

Front retainer clip was fitted as part of a recall I was told. Mines was done at the factory during a normal service as a precaution. Its fine apart from where the retainer goes in where the fibreglass is ripped - nor sure if its repairable or not (anyone know who I could take it to?)
