Hi Folks. As the title to this thread indicates, I drive about 3000 miles per year in my Tuscan (a weekend car) and just wondered what your thoughts were on servicing. Its last major (full) service was in April 06 and it had an interim service in April 07 (oil change etc). It runs fine and sounds smooth (not tappety) so just wondering what I should be saying to the garage when I take her in for her next service: full, full with tappets or just intermediate?

Thanks. smile

You should still have the car fully checked over annually but expect the bill to be less. Fewer of the checked items are likely to need work.

I'd still get the tappets checked, often with the speed 6 engine the valves can stretch slightly causing them to get quieter rather than noisy so worth making sure they are all as they should be.

It's not worth scrimping of services costs then getting a huge bill for something that has gone wrong because of it.

thanks for your replies.

I've heard some positive stuff about Leven Technology in Essex (I live in Herts). I've previously used Racing Green - no complaints but difficult to ignore indie rates. If anyone has anything adverse to say about Leven could you mail me off-line. Otherwise, that's were I'll be taking her. (TVR Power is a bit far - but thanks for reference).

Cheers.

I would prefer oil change once per year,
inspection every 2nd year.

But depending on how you drive
(Track, a lot in high rpm) then tappet check once per year!

Hi Fimbo, I do about 3500-4000/year in my 53reg tuscan. Had interim service last year, didnt bother with tappet adj/check. All has been ok but i had noticed the engine becoming a little harsher sounding. Just had a full (£700@PPC) service and the clearances needed adj. All were wider than spec so thicker shims have been used. No sign of cam or follower wear tho so all ok. I would advise the full monty at least every other year..
