the boot on my 2001 tuscan wont lock you can open it any time by simply lifting the lid ,the solenoid works fine but does not seem to engage the lid properly ,I think it may have been forced although does not show signs of damage .any one no what sort of ford the lock comes of so I could may be replace this.

Richard, the locking lever hasn't been locked by mistake? that would cause the boot to 'not lock'

But I'm sure you have played with the un-lock button.

Dont know if Mk1 the same as Mk2, but i can lock with the boot lid open....just rotate the latch with a screw driver till it goes passed the bar operated by the solenoid. The bar catches in the rotating latch, then release with the button.....I can shut my boot by pressing down until it catches.
If you do it with the boot open, may be you can see why its not catching.

It catches but releases very easily with out much pressure as if it had been strained

On inspection there is a very small hook on the rotating part that looks like it could sit in a grove on the solenoid operated bar. If that hook were worn I could see how it wouldn't catch very securely or if the bar wasn't extending far enough could also cause a problem. My cars in for service with X-Works tomorrow , so I'll find out which Ford its off, I seem to think its was a Ford MPV of some sort thats out of production, but Heath will confirm in the morning. I'll post when I know for sure.

My Boot is exactly the same, when i bought the car it worked fine however when I needed to fill up with petrol once the button would not let me open the boot for nothing.

censored, after completing this emergency! my boot now does not lock, so I also just drive with it just "Resting" shut.

Car is going to so into PPC soon so see if he can fix the problem, If you have had same problem and it was an easy fix please let me know as it is quite annoying.

cheers

John

John, please think before you post sensitive details about emergency entry information on a public forum, it could be your car that some scrote drives off in.

OK it ain't rocket science but why supply the info free of charge!

John - you might want to edit your post to remove details of the "emergency" entry procedure....not a great idea to post this info on a public forum mate wink
