Can anyone enlighten me to the process. I am planning on taking off fronts and rears to have them skimmed to remove small grooves as there is plenty off 'meat' and no distortion.
The fronts i think are straight forward once the calipers have been removed, but my understanding is that the rears have the handbrake setup incorporated and may not be so easy to remove.
Any pointers please...thanks

Once you take off the caliper and carrier they just come straight off,the handbrake mech is integral with the caliper.(obviously release the handbrake first).

If the discs are being skimed on a normal lathe then they will likely be pissed after,
Because when they are clamped on the bell face, machined then flipped and clamped to inside of the bell to machine the other face, the disc faces are no longer consistantly parallel as the tiniest difference in the inner and outer bell faces will be magnified at the disc face, even the smallest amount will cause kick back.
the only way to correctly skim them is both sides at once on a dedicated machine or you are wasting your money,to be honest.

I had my back disks skimmed by Drive Style TVR Harrogate @ £200 with new pads no problems at all the car breakes fine. The problem is if you have the smaller back disks as i did you can not get new ones the answer is new diskes and calapers £600 +

Typical MAD TVR prices.

Call Tony on 01403 864471. After 8 o/c Monday morning.
Tony is a highly skilled engineer who runs his own "shop" and works on amongst other things Formula 1 yatch racers.
He is a total petrol head and a bloody good bloke.

I would say £40.00 and he will sort out your disc skim.
He did mine on the Speed eight project car when others where talking typical stupid TVR prices.
Tony has done many things for me over the years and is a top notch engineer.

I believe rear discs are Ford Scorpio/Granada. New ones should be cheap enough, prob less than skiming. Have a look on 'need for speed' web site. They have them listed in various designs ie/ grooved/drilled etc.

Just had alook and they dont list tuscan brakes now ? But they list Scorpio cosworth discs. (130/pair ish)
Diam....273mm
depth...20mm
width...18mm
Think these are the ones
Anyone confirm that these are the same as Tuscan?

I thought all Ford Cossie disks were 4 stud not 5? I've a feeling that the Tuscan discs might be BMW as the TVR part number is J0467 and BMW part numbers include BDC 0467 - might be a coincidence, might not be??

Hmm, got me doubting myself now. Chim/Grif discs are same as saphire/cosworth but i seem to remember that they are a 5 stud redrilled to fit the 4 stud pattern?. Saphire cossie were 4 stud and pretty sure are the same front and rear as Chim/Griff but the Tuscan having a 5 stud pattern should be same as Scorpio cosworth rears.

Scorpio/Granada cars were 5 stud pattern...Cossies were Sierras and therefore 4 stud, but dont know if the discs were in fact 'Ford' or not...

You're right! I took my info from here Autonational Brake Disc Catalogue (about two thirds down the page is a link to the catalogue) and if I knew what the 'true' dimensions were of my discs, I'd probably be able to go and buy some! I know my rears are about 290mm dia but I've also seen 292mm quoted for Tuscan discs.

Sizes are somewhat confusing...and all depends on calipers fitted and whether the car is 'std' or 'S/Redrose'.

Sizes ive found on a TVR spares site are as follows:

Front 304dia x 30 thick - Std
Rears 280dia x 20 thick - std
Front 322dia x 30 thick - S/RRose
Rears 298dia x 20 thick - S/RRose

and the handbook simply says 291 Front and 280 rear!

I had to use some heat on mine. Nowhere near ideal I know but there was no way they would move otherwise.

The really early cars (pre Aug '00) had 291 undrilled fronts, same as 4.2 Cerbs, and 280 undrilled rears. They then moved to 304/280 but drilled. The drilled rears will fit straight onto an early car using the same callipers (I've done mine recently) and the drilled 304 fronts will fit with the right spacer for the calliper.

Thanks all, have got them off after some heating and kicking of a breaker bar from under the car, guess they really have been done up for 46000 miles those carrier bolts!
