Hi,

Has anyone had their standard Tuscan diff replaced with a Hydratrak or other LSD? Also, where's the best place to put a fire extinguisher? Passenger footwell? Back shelf?

Cheers,

JB

the standard diff is LSD, generally pointless swapping with hydratrack consensus is standard is more predictable.

I've got a Mk2 with close ratio box, and I my next job is to replace the 1.46 diff with a 1.71..(think I got the numbers right!!)... new cone and extended drive shaft... Well thats what the experts tell me will get rid of the "shunt".

Think you will find the diff you have fitted is a 3.46:1 and the one more suited to the CR box is a 3.73:1, My Tuscan S was delivered with a 3.73:1 think it depended what the factory had at the time, although a lot of people have changed them for 3.91:1 for even better acceleration.

Where are you sourcing the new diffs from? Racing green? Also after searching the topics, I've seen Quaife (sp?) mentioned as a good alternative to the hydratrak? Anyone got one of these on a Tuscan??

Cheers

John Reid Readman Racing has European Distribution http://www.readmanracing.co.uk/
BPW site has info http://www.bpw.co.uk/Automotive-DanaParts.html
Knew I'd get the numbers all wrong :der

I used these figures from the Sag forum to reckon I had a 3:46
The only thing you can tell from these readings is the diff ratio.
std box & 3.46 diff will give you :-
rpm gear mph
3000 5th 79
7500 4th 158

Try 3rd gear readings
std box & 3.46 diff will give you :-
rpm gear mph
3000 3rd 47
7500 3rd 118

cr box & 3.46 diff will give you :-
rpm gear mph
3000 3rd 51
7500 3rd 127

std box & 3.73 diff will give you :-
rpm gear mph
3000 3rd 44
7500 3rd 109

cr box & 3.73 diff will give you :-
rpm gear mph
3000 3rd 47
7500 3rd 118

and

3.54 3.73 3.91
Max speeds 1st Gear 52 49 47
2nd Gear 79 75 71
3rd Gear 115 109 104
4th Gear 140 133 126
5th Gear 192 182 174

90mph rpm

2nd Gear
3rd Gear 5652 5955 6242
4th Gear 4639 4888 5124
5th Gear 3374 3555 3727

4000 rpm speeds
1st Gear 29 27 26
2nd Gear 44 42 40
3rd Gear 64 60 58
4th Gear 78 74 70
5th Gear 107 101 97

50mph rpm

There is a good calculator for this on the Gearboxman site
