'Twang!!'....seat just broke.....

Was siting in the Tuscan the other day and the seat made a horrible sound and seemed to give a bit.

Have taken it apart and seem a thin (3mm dianeter) metal rod that goes from top to bottom held on by the worlds smallest spot weld.

Annoyingly it does make a real difference to the sitting position as now my left shoulder digs deeper into the seat.

Anyone had this? How did they repair it?

I've attempted some 'liquid metal' on it but it didn't hold (although if did briefly show me how much difference to made to the seating position)

Welding it again will be a pain due to the fire risk, plus it looks exceptionally weak and lilely to break again.

Is there any way of putting a piece of flat bar in its place, drill and tap then screw it into position? Difficult to advise with out knowing what it looks like........and I aint taking mine apart!

Ah! Success!!

The wire is supposed to connect to the cross bar (you can just about see the liquid metal.

It pushed the foam forward and gives you more support.

I find it very hard to believe that I am the only person that this has ever happened to - very weak design for a sports car.....

Hmmmm, looks like a quick-fix/botch for now could be some good old zip-ties! Big one round the box section then a smaller one round the big one and the detached metal rod, that's assuming the rod over lapped the box and didn't just butt up to the underside of it.

It did just butt up beneath the cross bar bit, with just a spot weld.

I like your thinking though - will give it a go.

My other solution was to use the liquid metal I have combined with some fabric tape (as recommended by the manufacturer) and wind it round the cross bar.

I felt there was something not quite right with the seat for a while and when i (temporarily) fixed it it was significantly more supportive - worth fixing!

It went twang this morning when I got in to go to work.
I havnt investigated yet and dont have any tools with me.
(I'm in Germany). My seat is pretty much right back against the rear wall so I havnt noticed any lack of support but i'll check tomorrow.
Thought of this thread the moment it happened.
