Mk2 - door problem

Came back last night from a good blast, turned the engine off and went to turn the dial to open the door and nothing. Dial was illuminated orange and red for a while so tried pushing the button in the centre but still the door didn't open. Luckily remembered the emergency door release - as I had visions of a night in the car!!
Have turned the alarm on and off as per the instruction in the manual but still not working. I can open the doors from the outside but not from inside without using the emergency release.

Any ideas????

its broken! seriously though, could be the door ecu.
