Tuscan Stability

I'm still getting used to the new P&J but I'm wondering about stability at higher speeds. A geo check probably wouldn't go amiss and maybe new suspension but I was wondering about the spoilers/splitters fitted to the Mk2.

1. Will they make any difference (or were they purely for bar bragging rights)?

2. Will they fit the Mk1?

Yes, they will help stabilise the car.

Getting the geometry set up and a decent set of shock absorbers also makes a big difference.

Having had both there is a huge difference in high speed stability between the Mk 1 and Mk2 if yours is the mk1 it may be that it has standards shockes and settings and replacing these would help with the handling I'm not sure the geo settings will improve this (significanly) if done in isolation.

New shocks all round I think............

I'm seeing a pattern here with my TVRs. First mods are always new shocks and a Leven wiper conversion. Looks like I need to add some aerodynamic bits too.

I've got a Mk1 S with front splitter, Gaz gold suspension, geometry set up by Ian at trackvroad and I find it very stable.

On a recent blast down Kirkbride runway it held a very stable line and my speedo logged a max of 162.

It does away with the crappy bent pipes/spraybars and replaces them with a much more compact plastic drilled block.

On a recent trip to Germany I found my Tuscan S to be rock solid at 160-170mph with the roof on or off. No discernible difference to be honest.

I've got Nitrons with a proper geometry set-up and of course the aero aids that come as part of the 'S' pack. If anything, I find it gets more stable above 120 mph as the aero aids really start to work and exert proper downforce.

Hi - With the Stock factory (Romanian bilsteins, geometry messed up - wheels not pointing straight, etc) my Tuscan 2 was like yours - all over the place above 80-90mph, needing 2-3 clear lanes at a ton+, camber-hunting like mad, etc. I also noticed it was much worse with the roof off and and stability seemed to worsen a bit with the rear screen out...

Now I've had the suspension done, new shocks, etc the difference is night and day... The car is so much more planted.

I *am* curious though whether it is worth fitting the front splitter to my 2, but I am a bit worried about all the speed bumps in London...

you can get these on ebay for a LOT less than leven sell them for!

I have a front lip spoiler as fitted to Chim/Griffs and Cerbs on my MK1 RR, which after fitted I thought did help although could be the placebo effect. I've never had high speed issues with my RR, just tram lining and nervous when new, but a proper 3D wheel alignment sorted the nervousness and greatly reduced the tramlining.

I'm still on 35 series tyres, but going to 40 series helps things.

I'm in the same situation as you, even after havin nitrons fitted, I will keeep you posted on my progress, just about to book the car in with a suspension/handling specialist and get it done as good as can be expected.

the 90+ mph "wobble" can be pretty terrifying!

There's no way that the car should feel unstable at speed. Definately a bad suspension/geometry set-up. I've got a mk1 Tuscan which are generally regarded as twitchy but is very stable at high speed. I can even take my hands off the wheel and not worry about it darting off on a tangent. It tracks straight and true.

if lookking on bay, what do you search for in order to know they will fit the Tuscan2s?
