Cleaning the inside of each alloy

Was thinking of taking off each wheel and cleaning the inside of the rim, as my local Eastern European car cleaners don't take them off and do it for the £5 charged...

Anyone got any suggestions of the best cleaning product to use?

I was thinking of white spirit, will this do?

I've used Car Plan wonder wheels before, worked well. You can then put on some wheel wax which makes it easier to keep the wheels clean for the next time.

I think you have to avoid the harsh chemical cleaners, they strip away at the alloy over time (I`ve had wonder wheels bubble alloys before). It might also take off the 'TVR' logo thats on the alloys.

Personally I just get down and get the hands between the wheels using an old micro mitt and clean it that way. Once a week and they stay perfect..

I just use FLASH (liquid that is...as every domestic godess should know)..OK for Kitchen floors aswell....I used Autoglym Intense Tar remover for the Black Stuff, but thoroughly wash it off after....If you rub too hard you can easily remove the silver paint and knacker them. Waxing after is a definite, I don't know how people can say they've cleaned their car with the wheels on... Got to have them off for a proper job

White spirit should be fine, it's one of the few things that take chain wax off bike wheels. Wash the wheels with car shampoo after using it and seal with any good sealant and the finish should last a while.

Most wheel cleaners are quite abrasive and attack the lacquer if left on too long so should be avoided.

Meguiars Wheel Brightener is very good. Can be diluted aswell so last ages and isnt too harsh. For getting into the back of the wheels, i have a brush which looks like a small toilet brush!

ordinary shampoo, wash mit and the odd bit of grazing to your knuckles keeps mine looking good. I don't bother with polish - it's just another residue to retain dirt.

Same here. Small sponge offcut, hot soapy water and the expectation for seeing some blood on my knuckles as they're slashed by the discs!

I used to use a 2 Tonne trolley jack from Halfords, but Machine Mart do some good ones. But now with a 4 post lift, it's a real doddle. I didn't like jacking from each corner in case I cracked the windowscreen.

Meguiars hot rims, then poorboys wheel sealant.

I rate the Meguairs Hot Rims stuff too, really rate it. It's not too harsh but it shifts the muck pretty well.
