mine feels more solid and beter built, more sure footed

so far only had

4 attempts at fixing air con followed by replacement whole system (blame the factory for arsing this up repeatedly)
now needs new trinary switch again (3rd one)
whole new ECU
2 clutches
new fuel line due to rust!!!! (1y old)
2 fuel pumps somehow related to fuel line (think tank filter not replaced)
2 shock absorbers
new heater contol unit
drivers door window broken down (both up and down...) twice
new radiator
gearbox needed rebuild as 2nd gear kept popping out (in first 3/12)
3 speed sender units
new throttle body pot's
new cat due to misfire from above destroying old one
new thermostat
4-5 100amp main fuses

Oh and a engine rebuild at 18K

lost count of the number bits I have screwed back on

and yet somehow I still love the car

I owned 2 tuscan mk1s and only had slight niggles, i have had this mk2 since new and the build quality is 100% spot on, in 20,000 miles the only problems i have had are one rear pipe fell off and the n/s/ door would not open (broken wire)

I've had mine just under a year now (picked it up at the end of July '07), and so far all I've had is minor stuff really:

- The pod goes mad every now and again
- N/S rear anti-roll bar drop link snapped (just a dodgy one I think, looking at the break)
- Second cooling fan not kicking in (currently investigating)

Everything else has been bang on. Just over 15k miles now (picked it up with just over 11k miles).

I went to the dealer to look at a Mk1 with no intention of going near a Mk2. After a few minutes sitting in the Mk2, the opposite applied.

Edited by MarkoTVR on Wednesday 2nd July 22:41 - got the mileage wrong!

Bought my Mk2 S new in May 07. Have now covered 8,400 miles and literally all that's gone wrong are, like Tovie, the two exhaust cans falling apart. No other issues at all - the car's surpassed all my expectations.

Bought by T2 in March 07, done approx 16k miles to date, clutch went at 15k, digital dash reboots at random in the hot weather, build quality very good, just been serviced by main dealer and no faults found, not sure how the exhausts fall off as i had straight thro' tail cans fitted Monday and the local exhaust fitters took 1 hour to get the standard carbon cans off with a blow torch and large mallet, vaguely remember the ruski delaying production in 04 to increase the build quality.

Hi Andy, I guess it depends on what exactly you mean by 'more reliable' ! - Do you mean engine, electrics, or the whole lot ?.

I bought a 3.6l Tuscan 2 with 5.5k miles thinking that I'd get a reliable car, only to have a head gasket failure 2 weeks after purchase. Head gasket - 130 quid, engine out/back in - 1500 quid !!

However, the 2004/2005 engines did have quite a few mods made to them to make them more reliable. Apparently these a big difference between (e.g.) an 01 engine and an 05. The new head gasket I had fitted is made of better material that the OEM and has extra cooling holes, etc.

Clutches (see a separate thread I started) also don't last long at all as far as I can gather and the OEM AP clutch doesn't like traffic at all - It's fine for straight on-off driving, but heats up rapidly.

Cheers,
Jonathan.

Oh - also forgot to mention:

Coolant leak (hose problem) following the engine out/back in, boot stopped locking, baboon's bum pod screen goes awol occasionally/when hot, cracked windscreen coming off Eurotunnel ramp in the dark (chassis does flex a bit so be very careful of speedbumps, etc).

BUT, like everyone says, the Tuscan experience is magic and I'd probably need a 100 grand Ferrari or something to put an equivalent-sized smile on my face... smile
